Part-Time App Developer — The Care Command Center

Location: Remote; Philippines-based applicants preferred
Starting compensation: $15 USD/hour
Expected commitment: Approximately 15–20 hours per week during active development
Schedule: Flexible, with occasional scheduled meetings during U.S. Central Time
Anticipated start: Most likely August 2027, potentially as early as January 2027

We are recruiting an experienced, practical app developer to help build The Care Command Center, working directly with the owner and collaborating with university interns based in San Antonio, Texas.

Our work includes BaunanaXO and Future Families for Adults, a developing nonprofit focused on helping adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families plan for the future.

The app’s detailed scope will be finalized before development begins. We need someone who can translate ideas into a realistic development plan, make sound technical decisions, and contribute directly to a working application.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help define essential features and a manageable first version.
  • Recommend a suitable, affordable technical approach.
  • Estimate development hours, milestones, and ongoing operating costs.
  • Build and test the application.
  • Collaborate with university interns on selected development tasks.
  • Help organize shared work, review contributions, and provide occasional technical guidance.
  • Integrate contributions into a consistent, maintainable application.
  • Maintain clear code, version control, and project documentation.
  • Identify and resolve bugs, usability issues, and technical blockers.
  • Support deployment and prepare clear maintenance instructions.
  • Communicate progress and obtain approval before exceeding agreed hours or incurring expenses.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience delivering functional applications.
  • Ability to take ownership of technical decisions and follow through on agreed milestones.
  • Experience with collaborative development, Git, and code review.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and work constructively with student developers.
  • Attention to accessibility, privacy, security, and ease of use.
  • Reliable communication, internet access, and time management.
  • A portfolio showing completed work and your specific contributions.

Experience mentoring junior developers or collaborating with university project teams is helpful. A degree is not required.

WORKING ARRANGEMENT
This is a hands-on development role with some technical coordination and guidance responsibilities. Collaboration with interns will depend on their skills, availability, and university program requirements.

We anticipate approximately 15–20 hours per week during active development. Final hours and project duration will be agreed after reviewing the requirements and student team’s contributions. Potential ongoing maintenance work will depend on project needs and funding.

This posting is for advance recruitment. The start date is tentative, and applicants are not expected to reserve availability or leave current work before an agreement is finalized.

TO APPLY, PLEASE INCLUDE:
1. Your résumé or a summary of relevant experience.
2. Links to two or three completed applications, explaining what you personally built.
3. Your preferred development tools and platforms.
4. An example of collaborating with or guiding less experienced developers.
5. Confirmation that the starting rate of $15 USD/hour is acceptable.
6. Your anticipated availability for January or August 2027.
7. A brief explanation of how you would organize development with university interns contributing to the project.
