App Tester (Part-Time, No Coding): Sharp Eyes + Great English Wanted
Confidential employer
About us
We are a property management company in Connecticut, USA. We build our own apps for the people who keep our buildings running: maintenance and construction crews who use them on a phone, and office staff and managers who use them on a computer all day.
The people using these apps are busy and not "tech people." When a word doesn't make sense, a button is hard to find, or they can't tell whether something saved, they lose time and stop trusting the app. Right now those problems are found by our managers in meetings. We want you to find them first.
This is not a coding job
You don't need to know how apps are built. We need someone who notices when something is confusing and can explain it clearly. If you've been a virtual assistant, done customer support, or tested apps before, that experience helps.
What you will do
- Use our apps the way a new employee would, on a phone and on a computer, with test accounts for each role (field crew, inspector, dispatcher, office staff, manager).
- Follow a short task ("schedule two crew members on one job for Monday", "find the door code for this unit", "mark this repair as done") and write down every moment you hesitate.
- Look for things like:
- Words that don't make sense. A label like "pieces," "level 2," or "hard" that doesn't tell you what it means, or two words used for the same thing.
- Things you can't find, or didn't know you could click.
- Colors with no meaning. Red, yellow, blue on the screen with nothing explaining them.
- Not knowing if it worked. You clicked save or send and can't tell whether it went through, or you left a page and lost your changes.
- Plainly wrong. You click one building and another one opens, a list is missing an item, Back takes you somewhere unexpected, a page is slow, text runs off the screen.
- Different people seeing different things when they should see the same thing.
- Report each problem clearly: what you were trying to do, what you expected, what happened, with a screenshot or a short screen recording (Loom or similar).
- Each week, re-check the problems we said were fixed and confirm they're still fixed.
- Send a short weekly summary: what you checked, what you found, what got fixed, what still feels confusing.
Who we're looking for
- Excellent written English. You'll be judging whether our words make sense to an American worker, so this matters most.
- Patience and attention to small things.
- Honesty: if something confused you, say so, even if it seems minor.
- An Android or iPhone, a computer, and a reliable internet connection.
- Comfortable recording your screen and talking through what you see.
Hours: flexible, with 2 hours overlapping US Eastern business hours (9 AM–5 PM ET) on weekdays.
How the hiring works
1. Apply with the details below.
2. Shortlisted applicants get a paid trial: about 3 hours reviewing one of our screens, with a short written report. We pay for the trial whether or not we hire you.
3. The strongest trial gets the job.
To apply
Start your application with the words "First-time user" so we know you read the full post. Then tell us:
- Your work experience, in 3–5 sentences.
- One app or website (any one) that confused you, what confused you, and how you would fix the wording or layout.
- Which phone you would use.
- Your available hours in Philippine time.
Applications that don't start with "First-time user" won't be reviewed.
