ABOUT ASHLEX

Ashlex is a US-based company providing technology consulting, custom software development, hosting, business management, and business process outsourcing (BPO) services. We develop applications and internal tools, integrate commercial software, maintain infrastructure, and support clients in different industries.

We actively use AI tools including Codex, ChatGPT, and other LLMs to help us develop solutions faster and work more effectively.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We're looking for a technically strong, resourceful, creative person who knows how to use AI to solve real business and technology problems.

This is NOT an entry-level role, and we're NOT looking for someone whose only technical skill is prompting AI to generate code. A solid, hands-on technical background is essential. You should understand programming, Linux, servers, databases, APIs, networking fundamentals, troubleshooting, and how applications actually work.

You don't have to know every tool or language. You must be able to understand and verify AI-generated work, identify mistakes, investigate unfamiliar problems, make sensible technical decisions, and finish assignments.

The work is varied. One day you might build an application. The next you might troubleshoot a Linux server, plan a technical project, design a dashboard, connect APIs, automate a workflow, research a new product, or improve an existing business system.

You will work closely with our Founder and CEO. Over time, a successful candidate may grow into broader technical leadership. We are looking for a builder and problem solver first, not someone seeking an executive title immediately.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

AI, automation and general problem solving

• Use Codex, ChatGPT, and other approved AI tools productively and responsibly.
• Research, prototype, evaluate, and implement technical solutions.
• Create integrations, scripts, automations, and internal tools.
• Identify practical ways AI can improve development and operations.
• Check AI output for accuracy, security, reliability, and maintainability.

Software development

• Build and maintain custom web applications and business systems.
• Work with existing codebases as well as modern technologies.
• Develop APIs, database integrations, and web interfaces.
• Troubleshoot, test, document, and improve software.
• Use Git, Docker, and structured development workflows.

Systems administration and troubleshooting

• Assist with Linux server and hosting administration.
• Diagnose application, web server, network, database, and deployment issues.
• Help with updates, configurations, backups, monitoring, and reliability improvements.
• Collaborate with our existing systems administrator.
• Follow approved procedures for production and security-sensitive changes.

Design and user experience

• Create or improve website layouts, dashboards, forms, and application interfaces.
• Build responsive, usable interfaces and prototypes.
• Work with designers and WordPress developers when specialized help is needed.
• Use good visual judgment and AI-assisted creative tools appropriately.

Planning and delivery

• Turn business needs into implementation plans and manageable tasks.
• Research options, estimate effort, and identify dependencies and risks.
• Communicate progress and raise blockers early.
• Coordinate handoffs with developers, operations, and independent QA.
• Take assignments through testing, documentation, and completion.

REQUIRED

• Strong hands-on technical experience with software development and troubleshooting.
• Practical understanding of web applications, APIs, SQL databases, and server fundamentals.
• Linux and general system administration familiarity.
• Practical experience using AI tools for technical work, with the judgment to check their output.
• Ability to learn unfamiliar codebases and technologies.
• Strong independent problem solving, organization, and follow-through.
• Clear written English and some overlap with New York business hours.

USEFUL BUT NOT REQUIRED

• JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, PHP, Perl, or other languages.
• PostgreSQL/MySQL, Docker, Git, cloud hosting, and Linux administration.
• WordPress, n8n, CRM/helpdesk systems, and workflow automation.
• UI/UX tools such as Figma and graphic design experience.
• LLM APIs, AI agents, integrations, and technical project planning.

WHO WILL DO WELL HERE

You are curious, technically grounded, comfortable with variety, and willing to learn. You don't give up just because a problem is new. You ask good questions, use AI thoughtfully, explain your decisions, and finish what you start. You care about a tested, working result—not simply producing code or reports.

WORKING WITH US

This role begins with a paid part-time trial. Long-term hours and compensation will depend on results, business needs, and mutual fit. We work on New York time and require some schedule overlap, but can be flexible.
