KDP Book Production Specialist: Formatting, AI Tools & Quality Control
Confidential employer
We are a British publishing company looking for a careful, reliable person to research, create and produce AI-assisted books for Amazon KDP.
You will take books from research to upload-ready files: researching topics, writing and editing with AI tools, proofreading, formatting, quality control, images, covers and A+ Content. This is a hands-on production role. It needs someone who reads instructions closely, keeps track of their own tasks and fixes mistakes without being reminded.
TO SHOW YOU HAVE READ THIS POST, START YOUR APPLICATION WITH THE WORDS "KDP READY".
Responsibilities
- Research book topics, competitors and keywords
- Write and edit books using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini), following our prompts and SOPs
- Manually proofread the full text of each book, up to 30,000 words at times, checking grammar, facts, repeated or missing content and consistency
- Format interiors for paperback, hardcover and eBook (Atticus, Word, Canva)
- Check margins, gutters, bleed, trim size and page count against KDP requirements
- Create interior images and covers with AI tools and Canva
- Build A+ Content and prepare KDP uploads and metadata
- Keep a task list, acknowledge every request and post daily status updates
- Spot problems before publication and suggest fixes
Requirements
- Excellent written English and clear spoken English (we use video calls)
- Very strong attention to detail, with the patience to proofread long texts carefully
- Hands-on formatting experience with Atticus, Word or similar tools
- Comfortable with AI tools, including AI image generation
- Reads instructions carefully, asks when unsure, and does not repeat the same mistake
- Works independently, takes constructive feedback well and takes ownership of errors
- Hours: 9am to 5pm UK time, Monday to Friday (currently 5pm to 1am Philippines time), camera on for calls
- Reliable internet and power backup
KDP experience is an advantage but not essential. Strong formatting and attention to detail matter most.
Shortlisted candidates complete a short, paid skills test before any offer.
HOW TO APPLY: Answer every question below in your OWN words. Short, specific answers are better than polished ones. Applications that look copied from ChatGPT or other AI tools will be rejected.
Questions
1. Start with "KDP READY". Where are you located, and are you currently working for another employer or client?
2. Rate yourself from 1 (beginner) to 5 (expert) and say how many years or books you have used each tool for. Write "never used" if that applies.
- Microsoft Word
- Canva
- Atticus
- Affinity Publisher or Adobe InDesign
- Kindle Create or Draft2Digital
- Grammarly or other proofreading tools
- Any other formatting or design tools
3. Which AI tools do you use right now? For each one, tell us your current plan (free or paid, for example "ChatGPT Plus $20 a month" or "Gemini free") and what you use it for.
4. Have you written or helped write a book or long document with AI, chapter by chapter? Describe your process and how you checked the facts.
5. AI images: which tools have you used, and how do you keep characters and style consistent across a whole book? Share links to examples.
6. Tell us about a real mistake you made at work. What happened, and what did you change afterwards?
7. Your manager says on Tuesday, "Adjust the margins, it's not urgent." On Friday they ask you to check your task list for anything missing. What do you do, and why?
8. List the five checks you would run before publishing a 30,000-word book, in order, and say why the first one is most important.
Please provide
- Resume/CV: open link (no access request needed)
- Portfolio: open link to formatted interiors, covers, Canva work or AI images
- A 60 to 90 second video or voice message (Google Drive, Loom or similar link): introduce yourself and describe one book you worked on
Only applications that answer all questions and include accessible links and the video or voice message will be considered.
