About the Role

We're a registered training organisation and CRICOS college in Sydney (RTO 41257 / CRICOS 03622A), and we're looking for a Philippines-based remote accountant or bookkeeper who has done real Australian books, not just read about them.

First, what this job isn't. You won't log into our bank accounts, make or release payments, or lodge anything with the ATO. Our Managing Director handles all of that. Your job is to prepare and calculate, and to get the numbers right.

Here's what you'd actually be doing.

Agent commissions are a big part of the role. Education agents send us commission invoices, and you'll check them against student lists, the tuition we've actually received, commission rates and our commission-ban list. Then you'll prepare the payment request (the calculation only) and sort out agent statement reconciliations and part-payments.

You'll also calculate fortnightly payroll for our onshore staff and offshore trainers, and prepare the schedules for approval. You won't be changing TFNs or staff bank details.

On student fees, you'll create and maintain tuition invoices, instalment schedules and payment plans in aXcelerate, allocate incoming payments to student accounts, and run the arrears report on a set template.

At month-end, you'll prepare the bank reconciliation working papers from bank feeds and statements (no bank login needed) and reconcile aXcelerate receivables to MYOB. You'll also enter supplier bills, prepare payment batches, and put together the BAS and super working papers for the Managing Director to review and lodge.

There are a few things we can't compromise on. You need at least 3 years of Australian bookkeeping or accounting experience, and strong working knowledge of MYOB. We use MYOB, not Xero. You should have prepared BAS workpapers, super and STP data before, and be comfortable with Excel and month-end close. Your written English needs to be excellent, because you'll be email ing education agents overseas. You'll also need reliable internet, a dedicated home office, and to be happy with a background check and an NDA.

It's a bonus if you have a Philippine CPA licence, finance experience in education, RTOs or CRICOS colleges, experience with aXcelerate or another student management system, or can read and write Chinese.

The hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM Sydney time, which comes to 32 hours a week. That's currently 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM PH time, and one hour later (8:00 AM to 4:00 PM) when Sydney daylight saving ends in April.

Interested? Send us your CV and a short note telling us:

1. How many years of Australian bookkeeping experience you have
2. Which MYOB version(s) you've used
3. Whether you've done agent commission reconciliation or education-sector accounting
4. Your expected hourly rate in AUD, and when you could start

If you're shortlisted, we'll ask you to do a practical test before we make a decision, and we'll pay you for your time.
