Creator Research Specialist
Confidential employer
Scope of Work (General Job Description)
RESEARCH SPECIALIST needed to build a list of finance short-form video creators (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts) for topic research. The list has one job: capture what topics actually perform — every row must include the creator's top-performing videos so I can study what works.
Your outcome is to:
1. Build a list of 50 finance short-form creators within the parameters below who match our requirements.
2. Focus on creators with real engagement, not just follower counts. Average views matter more than followers.
3. Every row must include topic research. No rows without top-performing videos.
Key Bullet Points
- Required: FINANCE-FOCUSED short-form creator — the majority of their videos must be about investing, personal finance, markets, economics, or fintech. A lifestyle creator who "sometimes talks about money" does not count.
- Required: Active in the last 30 days — at least 4 finance videos posted in the last 30 days. Short-form moves fast; dormant accounts are useless.
- Required: 50,000–1,000,000 followers on their primary platform. Big enough to matter, small enough to be able to replicate their content. (Mega-creators with millions of followers are ok. Note them separately if you find good ones, but they don't count toward the 50.)
- Required: Top 3 performing videos linked for EVERY row. Video link plus view count. This is the topic research; do not skip it.
- Required: Submit a list of exactly 50 creators. No duplicates.
- Ideal: Leans on credibility/authority positioning (credentials, career background, "ex-Wall Street" style framing) — these are the best comps for my positioning, so flag them.
- Ideal: Strong engagement - average views at least 10% of follower count, or clearly viral outliers in recent videos.
- Ideal: Already does brand deals or sponsorships (proven they treat it as a business).
Overview & Details
I'm a software engineer at a big tech company (Princeton grad, 2350/2400 SAT) and have been investing early across different vehicles and learned a lot from doing so. I started out reselling things at a young age to get my first capital though. I'm building short-form finance video content (TikTok/Reels/Shorts), explaining investing and personal finance related topics. My positioning leans on real credentials and clear explanations, not hype. I want to study what topics perform. The list exists as a topic-research database I can mine for video ideas.
Good audience fit: retail investors, savers, and personal-finance learners, people who watch short videos to get smarter about money.
Your goal is to build a list of 50 ideal creators for topic research.
Examples of Creators We've Looked At
- "Humphrey Yang — TikTok/YouTube Shorts, ex-financial advisor, explains complex finance topics in 60 seconds with pop-culture hooks. Type of creator we want: credible background, short-form native, consistent poster. (Too big at 3M+ followers to count toward the 50 — direction example only.)"
- "Vivian Tu / Your Rich BFF — TikTok/Instagram, former Wall Street trader, personal finance made accessible. Great topic research: see which of her money-tip formats go viral. (Too big — direction example only.)"
- "Jim Wang ---------- — won Best Short-Form Content at the 2026 FinTalk Awards. Exactly the tier and format we're targeting: recognized short-form finance creator."
- "Erika Kullberg — attorney + personal finance, 9M+ TikTok, consumer money tips and legal money hacks. Study her hook style.
(These are direction examples for content style and topic research, not exclusions — the 50 rows should be creators in the 50k–1M band. Your judgment on fit matters more than copying the examples.)
List Building Details
Please build the list in a Google Sheet. Include the following columns:
- Creator name / handle — name ---------- Primary platform — TikTok, Instagram Reels, or YouTube Shorts (note if active on multiple).
- Profile link — direct link to their profile.
- Follower count — count and platform ("~85k TikTok followers").
- Average views — rough average views per finance video over the last 30 days.
- Finance niche — one line: value investing, personal finance, crypto, day trading, budgeting, etc.
- Creator contact — business email from bio/Linktree if available; otherwise business-inquiry link. Never leave this blank.
- Contact type — " ;email " or "DM/link" (so I know how warm the row is).
- Top 3 videos — links to their 3 highest-viewed finance videos, with view counts. This is the topic research — the most important column after contact info.
- Posting cadence — videos per week (from recent activity).
- Description — a short description of why this creator was selected and why they'd be a good contact (2-3 sentences).
How This Hire Works
1. Apply as described below. Applications that skip the sample creators will not be considered — that sample is the first test.
2. Shortlisted applicants (2–3) will be offered a paid sample test: a small slice of the real list (5 completed rows in the full column format above), fixed price, with a stated deadline.
3. The winner of the paid test builds the full 50-creator list at the fixed price agreed in the application stage. Payment is direct (EasyPay or Wise)
