About the Role

About us

Lotus Moon is a husband-and-wife apparel brand based in Kansas City, USA. We sell spiritual, empowerment, and humor graphic tees to women, mostly ages 30–70.

Our designs mix sacred symbols (lotus flowers, mandalas, sage, the moon) with honest, sometimes irreverent humor. Best sellers include "Practicing Compassion… so don't piss me off" and "Will Burn Sage and Bridges As Needed." Some designs include full-on profanity, so you'll need to be comfortable with that.

Everything we sell currently is print-on-demand through Printify and sold on our Shopify store. We're a small, close-knit team, and this role works directly with our Creative Director and owner.

What you'll do day to day

In a typical week you'll finish about 30 designs and create about 60 products in Printify.

1. Receive designs from our Creative Director.
2. Edit and clean up artwork so it's print-ready.
3. Create new t-shirt and long-sleeve products in Printify, including placing designs and choosing shirt colors that suit each design.
4. Track your work on our task board.
5. Work in constant collaboration with the Creative Director over Slack.

There's also real room and the expectation for eventual self-directed creative work in this role. Once you understand the brand and our past designs, you'll generate new ideas and build on existing designs to create new ones.

What you need

  • Graphic design and image editing skills
  • AI design generation skills: you know how to prompt for, refine, and clean up AI artwork into something print-ready
  • Proficiency Affinity and/or Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Proficiency in Canva
  • Experience with print-on-demand, both designing for it and understanding the business model
  • Color theory for apparel:
  • choosing palettes that create a feeling on a garment and work with a design
  • seasonal palettes
  • working within a fixed set of shirt colors and ink limits

POD-specific skills we'll test for

  • Working with SVG and PNG files
  • Understanding how on-screen color translates to printed garments (RGB vs. CMYK)
  • Placing designs on apparel: location, sizing, and how transparency prints
  • Understanding why hard, clean edges matter for print
  • Knowing the difference between a "t-shirt-able" design and a piece of artwork
  • Researching designs and trends
  • Building a cohesive look across the whole brand, a collection, and a mini collection

Nice to have

  • Experience with Printify specifically (a big plus)
  • Content creation experience
  • Video creation and editing, especially in Canva or CapCut
  • Experience making ad creatives

How to apply

Applications that skip these steps won't be reviewed.

1. Start your application with the word "LOTUSDESIGN" in the subject line.
2. Share a link to your portfolio, with apparel or POD samples if you have them.
3. List the specific brands or stores you've designed for.
4. Visit lotus-moon.co and answer these two questions in 3–5 sentences each:

  • What makes a design "t-shirt-able" rather than just good artwork?
  • Pick two of our designs from a specific collection. What new design would you create to sit next to it in that collection, and why?

Shortlisted applicants will complete 3 small paid test tasks.
