Software User Tester (US Real Estate App) - Full-Time, 40 hrs/week, $3.50/hr
Confidential employer
THE JOB IN ONE SENTENCE
Use Lot Decoder all day, in every US state, the way real agents, investors and builders do, and find every wrong answer, broken screen and confusing word before our users do.
- Hours: full time, 40 hours a week, Monday to Friday
- Pay: $3.50/hr, as an independent contractor
- Where: remote, Philippines-based
- Team: you find the problems. A Zoning Reviewer fixes zoning numbers and a Price Accuracy Checker fixes prices. Everything else goes to the owner.
WHAT IS LOT DECODER?
Agents, investors and builders type in an address. Lot Decoder tells them what they can build on that lot and what it might cost and earn, in any US city. Deal Finder searches a whole city for empty lots that could make money. If any of that is wrong, someone could lose real money on a bad deal. Your job is to find it first.
WHAT WE EXPECT FROM YOU
This is a high-output role. These are the numbers you'll be measured on every week.
- Deal Finder searches: Weeks 1–2: 60 a week; Weeks 3–4: 80 a week; Week 5 on: 100 a week
- Full reports opened and checked: Weeks 1–2: 20 a week; Weeks 3–4: 35 a week; Week 5 on: 50 a week
- Different US states covered: Weeks 1–2: 3 a week; Weeks 3–4: 4 a week; Week 5 on: 5 a week (all 50 states in about 10 weeks)
- Confirmed defects filed: Weeks 1–2: 15 a week; Weeks 3–4: 25 a week; Week 5 on: 30 a week
- Defects the owner can repeat from your steps: 90%
- Fixed defects re-tested: within 1 business day
- Stop-ship defects reported: within 1 hour
What counts as a confirmed defect: a real problem that someone else can see by following your steps. Duplicates, guesses and "I think this might be wrong" without proof don't count. One real wrong-money defect is worth more than ten typos.
As the app gets better, defects get harder to find. The defect target will be reset with you every month so it stays tough but fair.
Missing the weekly targets two weeks in a row means we talk about whether the role is a fit.
YOUR DAILY ROUTINE
Step 1: Start of day (15 minutes)
1. Open the Team page ( ---------- /#/team), pick "Test plan" and tap Clock in. Your hours count automatically from here.
2. Open the Defects card. Re-test every report marked Fixed (see "How to re-test a fix" below).
3. Read "Test plan for today" on the Team page: today's new city, the repeat city and the focus. Tap Next to open Deal Finder already set to that city.
Step 2: Run Deal Finder searches (about 3 hours)
Run 20 searches a day: 1 or 2 in today's new city, and the rest as repeats in cities already searched (try a different ZIP code, lot size or development type). Repeats cost us much less and still test the app. If you see "today's budget reached", move on to Step 4. For each search:
1. Open Deal Finder in Lot Decoder and type the place from your test plan.
2. Time it. Write down how long until the first lots show, and how long until the search finishes.
3. Check the top 5 cards and 2 random cards from lower down. For each card, check:
- Is it a real, empty lot? Open the map or aerial photo. A house, building or parking lot on it is a defect.
- Is it in the place you searched? A lot from another city or ZIP code is a defect.
- Is it really for sale (for-sale cards)? Open the listing link. Sold, pending or a dead link is a defect.
- Is it government land? Owner names like "City of...", "County of...", "State of..." or "Housing Authority" are defects.
- Does the zoning label make sense? Compare the card's zone with the county's official zoning map. A different zone is a Zoning defect.
- Do the owner and mailing details make sense (off-market cards)?
- Does every link and button work?
- Can a first-time user understand every word? Anything confusing is a Wording defect.
Step 3: Open full reports (about 3 hours)
Open 10 reports a day, all from lots in that day's Deal Finder results: 5 by clicking the card, and 5 by typing that lot's address into the home page.
For each report:
1. Check the lot: is the outline on the map the right lot? Is the address right?
2. Check the zoning numbers (lot size, height, setbacks) against the county zoning map and the city code. File any that look wrong as Zoning defects with the code link.
3. Check the sales the report used: are they real sales nearby, of the same property type the report plans to build (house, townhome, condo, apartments, retail or industrial)? Any that are far away or a different type go in as Price defects. If the finished sale price looks far above or below similar sold properties nearby, file it as a Price defect too. Don't do the full price check yourself; the Price Checker does that.
4. Read every sentence. Anything that contradicts another part of the report, or that a beginner wouldn't understand, is a defect.
5. Try every button: save, share, presentations, offer letter and contact owner. Don't send anything to a real owner, agent or customer.
Step 4: Try to break it (about 1 hour)
Every day, try 5 things a real user might do by mistake:
- type an address with a typo, no city, or a unit number
- search a tiny town, a rural county, or a place with no empty lots
- use your phone in portrait and landscape
- go back, refresh or switch tabs in the middle of a search
- run two searches at once in two tabs
Step 5: File every defect the same day
Every defect gets one report: tap "Something look wrong? Report a problem" at the bottom of the page, on the page where you found it. See "How to file a defect" below. File Stop-ship defects within 1 hour, and also message Debbie in Skool right away.
Step 6: End of day (5 minutes)
1. On the Team page, tap Clock out. Your hours, searches, reports and defects are counted automatically and show in the Team feed.
2. Message Debbie in Skool with 2 lines: the worst thing you found today, and anything blocking you.
HOW TO FILE A DEFECT
One report per problem. Write these in the report box, one per line, and tap "Add a screenshot".
- Date: Today's date
- Type: Zoning, Price, Wrong lot, Not empty, Not for sale, Government land, Slow, Broken, Wording, Other
- Severity: Stop-ship: wrong money, wrong lot, a crash, or something a user could lose money on. Major: wrong information that a careful user might catch. Minor: wording, layout or a small glitch.
- Where: The full address or place searched, and the page link
- Steps: Numbered steps someone else can follow to see it
- Expected: What should have happened
- What happened: What actually happened, with the exact numbers or words
- Proof: A screenshot, plus a link to the official source (zoning map, code, sold listing)
- Device: Phone or computer, and the browser
Where it goes: Zoning defects go to the Zoning Reviewer, Price defects go to the Price Accuracy Checker, and everything else goes to the owner. The Type you write routes it. You don't need to message anyone except for Stop-ship defects.
Before filing: check the Defects card for the same address or problem. If it's already there, don't file it twice.
HOW TO RE-TEST A FIX
1. Follow the report's Steps exactly.
2. If the problem is gone, mark it Passed in the Defects card.
3. If it's still there, mark it Failed and file a new report with a new screenshot that mentions the first one.
4. Also check one other place with the same kind of problem (another city, another lot). If it shows up there, file a new report and mention the first one. Fixes must work everywhere, not just on one address.
RULES
1. Never contact a real owner, seller, agent or customer. Contact tools are tested only up to the final send button.
2. Use only the test account the owner gives you, and stay under the daily search limit. Searches cost real money.
3. Proof beats opinion. Every Zoning or Price defect needs an official link or a real sold listing.
4. Report what you see, not what you guess the cause is.
5. Keep everything confidential: the app, its numbers, and every defect report.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- You've done software testing (QA), or you've worked in US real estate support and are relentlessly detail-minded.
- You know how to read a US county parcel map or a listing, or can learn it in your first week.
- You write steps so clearly that someone else can repeat them the first time.
- You stay sharp doing the same kind of check 100 times a week.
- A plus: experience with US zoning maps, US real estate, or testing mobile apps.
TRAINING IN YOUR FIRST 30 DAYS (PAID)
1. Finish all 8 Lot Decoder courses and their quizzes in our Skool community within your first 30 days.
2. Be active in the community: introduce yourself, then make at least 3 helpful posts or replies a week.
3. Course time is paid at your normal hourly rate once your access is on. On the Team page, pick "Training" when you clock in. Studying before your access is on is optional and unpaid.
