About Us
Skylar Racing is a U.S.-based live-commerce business specializing in retro video games, modern gaming products, consoles, collectibles, electronics, and other merchandise.
We sell a large volume of products through live auctions on Whatnot and are constantly looking for new inventory to purchase and resell.
We are looking for an extremely internet-savvy, knowledgeable, and motivated individual who can research products, discover profitable inventory opportunities, and provide purchasing recommendations to our team on a daily basis.
This position is primarily focused on video games and gaming-related merchandise, but we are also interested in products that would appeal to gamers, collectors, and our live auction audience.
You must already have a strong understanding of video games, gaming consoles, accessories, gaming collectibles, and online shopping marketplaces.
We are NOT looking for someone who needs to learn what a Nintendo DS, PlayStation Vita, GameCube, or Game Boy Advance is.
We want someone who genuinely understands the gaming industry, enjoys researching products online, and knows how to find interesting merchandise at competitive prices.
Primary Responsibilities
Your primary responsibility will be to search the internet every working day for products and inventory opportunities that Skylar Racing could purchase and resell through live auctions.
You will spend a significant portion of your day researching websites, comparing prices, identifying suppliers, and sending direct purchasing links to our team.
Responsibilities include:
- Search eBay daily for video game lots, consoles, handhelds, accessories, collectibles, and profitable inventory.
- Research liquidation websites for gaming-related inventory, overstock products, customer returns, and closeout merchandise.
- Search Alibaba for manufacturers, wholesalers, and products suitable for resale.
- Identify gaming accessories and products that could be purchased in bulk and sold individually.
- Discover interesting, unusual, or trending products that would appeal to gamers.
- Compare purchasing prices against realistic resale values.
- Research recent eBay sold listings and other relevant market data.
- Identify bulk deals, undervalued listings, and potential wholesale opportunities.
- Find suppliers offering large quantities of identical products at attractive prices.
- Research international and domestic sourcing opportunities.
- Identify products that could work particularly well in a fast-paced live auction environment.
- Send direct links to potential inventory purchases to our team every working day.
- Maintain an organized daily list of sourcing opportunities in Google Sheets.
- Monitor previously discovered products for price changes, restocks, and new availability.
- Immediately communicate particularly valuable or time-sensitive purchasing opportunities.
- Continuously discover new websites and suppliers rather than relying on the same few sources.
You will not be responsible for purchasing inventory without authorization. Your role is to research opportunities and provide accurate, organized recommendations.
Daily Product Links & Purchasing Recommendations
This is one of the most important responsibilities of the position.
We expect you to actively search for new inventory opportunities and send links to products that our company could realistically purchase every single scheduled working day.
You should not wait for management to ask you to find products.
Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Continuously searching eBay, Alibaba, liquidation websites, wholesalers, and other marketplaces.
- Sending links to potential purchases throughout your working shift.
- Providing accurate purchase prices, quantities, condition details, and relevant information.
- Explaining why you believe each product is worth considering.
- Identifying opportunities where the purchase price is significantly below realistic resale value.
- Finding products that can be purchased in bulk at attractive prices.
- Locating merchandise that would appeal to our existing gaming and collector audience.
- Keeping an organized list of all potential purchases.
- Ensuring links are active and products are still available when submitted.
- Avoiding duplicate recommendations unless pricing or availability has materially changed.
- Providing a daily summary of the strongest purchasing opportunities discovered.
We expect a consistent flow of new purchasing opportunities.
Our initial target is approximately 10–20 qualified product leads per full working day, depending on the complexity of the research. Quality is more important than volume, and this target may be adjusted as we evaluate the usefulness of your recommendations.
We are not looking for someone who sends random eBay listings or overpriced retail products just to meet a daily quota.
Every submitted link should represent a genuine potential purchasing opportunity supported by research.
If you discover an unusually good deal that could sell out quickly, we expect you to communicate that opportunity immediately rather than waiting until the end of your shift.
At the end of each working day, our purchasing team should have a clear list of new products, suppliers, and potential purchases to review.
Consistently providing useful purchasing links is a core performance expectation for this role.
Gaming Knowledge Is Required
We are specifically looking for someone who already understands video games and gaming-related merchandise.
You should be familiar with:
- Nintendo handhelds, including Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS, and related models.
- Sony consoles and handhelds, including PlayStation, PSP, PS Vita, and related accessories.
- Nintendo consoles such as Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, and newer systems.
- Xbox consoles, controllers, and accessories.
- Retro and modern video game cartridges and discs.
- Console controllers, replacement accessories, adapters, cables, and peripherals.
- Special edition gaming consoles and collectible merchandise.
- Japanese video games, imported consoles, and gaming accessories.
- Console repair tools, replacement parts, and maintenance accessories.
- Gaming-related electronics, gadgets, and collectibles.
You do not need to know the value of every item, but you should have enough gaming knowledge to recognize interesting products, identify potential deals, and research unfamiliar items efficiently.
A strong understanding of Japanese gaming products and retro gaming is particularly valuable.
Products We Want You to Find
Although gaming is our primary focus, we sell many different types of merchandise.
We are interested in sourcing:
- Retro video games, consoles, and handhelds
- Modern gaming consoles and accessories
- Gaming controllers and replacement parts
- Gaming repair tools and electronics accessories
- Gaming collectibles, figures, and novelty products
- Gaming-themed merchandise and desk accessories
- Gaming room decorations and display products
- Interesting technology products and gadgets
- Unique electronics and useful everyday accessories
- Bulk liquidation and closeout products
- Products that can be purchased cheaply in large quantities
- Unique merchandise that gamers and collectors would be excited to purchase
For example, finding a manufacturer offering an interesting gaming accessory for $2 per unit could be valuable if the product has realistic resale demand and attractive margins.
Finding a bulk lot of retro video games on eBay at a significantly lower price than their realistic resale value could also be valuable.
We are especially interested in unique products, good deals, large quantities, and merchandise that would create excitement during our live auctions.
Websites & Marketplaces
You should already be comfortable navigating online marketplaces and conducting extensive internet research.
Websites you may regularly use include:
- eBay
- Alibaba
- AliExpress
- Major liquidation and closeout websites
- Wholesale inventory marketplaces
- Manufacturer and distributor websites
- Japanese gaming marketplaces
- International wholesale suppliers
- Specialty retro gaming websites
- Online auction websites
- Other product sourcing and wholesale platforms
You should be able to discover additional sourcing websites independently.
We do not want someone who only knows how to perform basic Google searches.
We want someone who knows how to use search filters, advanced search terms, sold listing history, image searches, marketplace categories, and other research tools to uncover opportunities that may not be immediately obvious.
Understanding Live Auction Sales
Our company sells merchandise through live auctions, primarily on Whatnot.
Understanding this business model is extremely important.
The products we purchase are not necessarily the same products that traditional online retailers would prioritize.
You should understand that:
- Some products sell quickly because they are recognizable and desirable.
- Interesting products can perform well even if they are inexpensive.
- Bulk quantities can be more valuable to us than a single profitable item.
- A product's perceived value and actual demand both matter.
- Live auction prices may differ significantly from traditional eBay listing prices.
- Purchasing cost, shipping, platform fees, defects, and other expenses affect profitability.
- The ability to repeatedly source a successful product can be extremely valuable.
Experience buying or selling on Whatnot is highly preferred.
