Shopify UX/UI Designer – Ecommerce Websites & Conversion
Confidential employer
We’re a small Australia-based Shopify team looking for a talented UX/UI designer to work with us across a mix of ecommerce projects.
The work can range from a simple one-page website on a tight budget through to a polished Shopify Plus store that needs to look and feel exceptional.
We’re not looking for someone who simply follows instructions and moves boxes around in Figma. We want a designer who can understand a brief, bring their own ideas and sometimes take the work somewhere better than we expected.
This is a website design role, not social media graphics, Canva or general graphic design.
About us
We’re a small, hands-on team that works with retail and consumer brands.
We care about doing great work, keeping clients happy and getting things delivered properly. We also like having fun while we work and giving people the freedom to manage their own time.
Working hours are generally flexible. We care more about communication, reliability and outcomes than whether you are sitting at a desk at a particular time.
What you’ll do
- Design Shopify websites in Figma
- Work on projects ranging from simple landing pages to larger Shopify Plus stores
- Create homepage, product, collection and landing page layouts
- Design for desktop and mobile
- Improve navigation, page structure and customer journeys
- Work within existing Shopify themes when appropriate
- Prepare clean files for developer handover
- Turn around design work efficiently and respond well to feedback
What we’re looking for
- A great ecommerce website portfolio
- Shopify design experience
- Excellent Figma skills
- A good understanding of ecommerce UX and conversion
- A sharp eye for spacing, typography, hierarchy and detail
- The ability to adapt to different brands, budgets and project sizes
- Someone who can bring ideas, not just wait for instructions
- Clear communication and some overlap with Australian working hours
You do not need to be a developer, but your designs should be practical to build and suited to Shopify.
This is a direct part-time role with the opportunity for more work over time.
Estimated hours are 10 to 20 hours per week, depending on the project and workload.
The hourly rate is flexible and will depend on your portfolio, experience and skill level. We are happy to pay more for someone exceptional.
We have one project ready to start immediately, with another already in the pipeline.
To apply, please send:
- Your portfolio
- Three or more ecommerce websites you personally designed
- What you handled on each project
- Your availability and hourly rate
We enjoy working with people who care about what they do, take pride in their work and want the freedom to do great creative work without unnecessary structure.
