About the Role

This role requires hands-on accounting review, sound judgment, and the ability to explain financial issues in plain English.

PHASE 1: BOOKS REVIEW

Our first engagement will be a paid review of our books in Finaloop, estimated at 10–25 hours.

You will:

Identify accounting errors, miscategorized transactions, and missing information.

Review how revenue, fees, refunds, and payouts are recorded across our sales channels.

Review inventory accounting, cost of goods sold (COGS), and landed costs.

Check how we track Meta ads, creator and influencer payments, affiliate commissions, and product seeding.

Deliver a concise written report explaining what needs fixing, why it matters, and which issues should be addressed first.

PHASE 2: ONGOING FINANCIAL ADVISORY

Successful completion of Phase 1 can lead to an ongoing engagement of approximately 3–6 hours per month.

You will:

Review our monthly profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow.

Flag declining margins, potential cash shortages, and inventory risks.

Help forecast cash needs around inventory purchases and major promotions, including Black Friday.

Work with our bookkeeper to improve accounting processes and month-end close.

Join one monthly call with the founder to explain findings and recommend practical next steps.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Strong accounting background; CPA strongly preferred.

Experience working with e-commerce or consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands.

Understanding of marketplace accounting, including Amazon settlements, Shopify payouts, and TikTok Shop transactions.

Experience reviewing inventory, COGS, and landed costs.

Understanding of the cash cycle for physical products: paying manufacturers upfront, holding inventory, and funding advertising before sales turn into available cash.

Ability to independently identify problems and recommend clear, practical fixes.

Excellent written and spoken English, including the ability to explain accounting to a non-accountant.

NICE TO HAVE

Experience with supplement, pet, wellness, or beauty brands.

Experience using Finaloop, QuickBooks Online, or Xero.

Familiarity with Chewy accounting.

Experience tracking influencer, affiliate, and product seeding costs.

Understanding of customer acquisition cost (CAC), contribution margin, lifetime value (LTV), and subscription revenue.

Familiarity with US S corporations. We have a separate tax preparer.

WORK ARRANGEMENT

Remote, flexible hours, and async-friendly communication.

One monthly founder call at a mutually agreed time.

A paid initial project with the opportunity for a long-term monthly retainer.
