Senior Google Ads Specialist
Confidential employer
Job Overview:
We are looking for a highly experienced, data-driven Senior Google Ads Specialist with a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience managing, optimizing, and scaling Google Ads campaigns.
The ideal candidate must have an in-depth understanding of Google Ads at an agency level, with a proven track record of generating high-quality leads, reducing Cost Per Lead (CPL), optimizing Cost Per Click (CPC), improving conversion rates, and maximizing advertising performance.
This is not a role for someone who simply knows how to launch campaigns. We need a performance marketing expert who understands the complete advertising funnel, can interpret performance data, identify inefficiencies, develop winning strategies, and consistently deliver measurable results across multiple campaigns and client accounts.
The candidate must be confident in managing substantial advertising budgets, handling multiple accounts simultaneously, and making strategic decisions based on data rather than assumptions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Google Ads Campaign Management
Plan, execute, manage, and optimize Google Ads campaigns, including Search, Display, Performance Max, YouTube, Local Services Ads (LSA), and remarketing campaigns.
Conduct advanced keyword research, search intent analysis, competitor analysis, and negative keyword management.
Develop effective campaign structures, ad groups, bidding strategies, audience segments, and conversion-focused ad copy.
Optimize CPC, CPL, conversion rates, impression share, Quality Score, and overall campaign profitability.
Identify wasted ad spend, irrelevant search queries, poor-performing keywords, and underperforming campaigns.
Manage bidding strategies, including Maximize Conversions, Target CPA, Maximize Conversion Value, and Target ROAS, where appropriate.
Analyze search terms, device performance, geographic performance, audience behavior, and landing page effectiveness.
Develop and execute remarketing strategies to improve lead generation and conversion performance.
Troubleshoot campaign delivery issues, ad disapprovals, tracking discrepancies, and account performance fluctuations.
Conduct regular campaign audits and implement structured optimization strategies to improve performance.
2. CPL, CPC & Performance Optimization:
The candidate must have a deep, practical understanding of CPL and CPC, including how these metrics affect campaign efficiency, lead generation, and business profitability.
Monitor and optimize Cost Per Click (CPC), Cost Per Lead (CPL), Cost Per Acquisition (CPA), Click-Through Rate (CTR), conversion rate, and Return on Ad Spend (ROAS).
Understand the relationship between CPC, landing page conversion rate, lead quality, and final acquisition cost.
Diagnose why CPL or CPC is increasing and develop actionable strategies to bring costs under control.
Optimize campaigns based on business objectives rather than clicks or impressions alone.
Calculate target CPL and allowable acquisition costs based on client budgets, sales conversion rates, and business economics.
Identify opportunities to increase lead volume without compromising lead quality or exceeding target CPL.
Analyze performance at campaign, ad group, keyword, search term, audience, and device levels.
Allocate budgets based on performance data, conversion quality, and campaign growth opportunities.
Understand the difference between generating inexpensive leads and generating leads that convert into actual sales.
Provide clear recommendations backed by data, testing results, and measurable performance improvements.
3. Conversion Tracking & Analytics:
*Set up, audit, and troubleshoot Google Ads conversion tracking.
*Work with Google Analytics 4 (GA4), Google Tag Manager (GTM), and relevant call tracking and lead tracking systems.
*Understand attribution models, conversion windows, tracking discrepancies, and reporting limitations.
*Track form submissions, phone calls, qualified leads, and other meaningful business conversions.
*Ensure campaigns are optimized against reliable conversion signals and appropriate business outcomes.
*Analyze landing page performance, funnel drop-offs, and conversion behavior.
*Identify discrepancies between Google Ads reporting, analytics platforms, and actual leads recorded by the business.
*Ensure tracking is configured correctly before making major campaign optimization decisions.
4. Agency-Level Account Management:
*Manage multiple Google Ads accounts, campaigns, budgets, and performance targets simultaneously.
*Develop campaign strategies based on individual client goals, target audiences, industries, and competitive environments.
*Conduct regular account audits and identify strategic opportunities for growth and efficiency.
*Communicate campaign performance, challenges, results, and next steps to internal teams and stakeholders.
*Forecast lead volumes, expected CPL, budget requirements, and scaling opportunities using realistic assumptions.
*Maintain campaign documentation, testing plans, optimization logs, and performance benchmarks.
*Collaborate with account managers, sales teams, developers, and landing page specialists to improve campaign results.
*Required Qualifications & Experience
*Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience managing Google Ads campaigns.
*Proven experience working in a digital marketing agency or managing multiple client accounts in a performance-driven environment.
*Demonstrable results in lead generation, CPL reduction, CPC optimization, conversion rate improvement, and campaign scaling.
*In-depth knowledge of Google Ads campaign structures, bidding strategies, keyword targeting, remarketing, and budget management.
*Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex campaign data and translate insights into action.
*Practical experience with GA4, Google Tag Manager, conversion tracking, and call tracking systems.
*Strong understanding of landing pages, attribution, audience behavior, and conversion optimization.
*Ability to manage advertising budgets responsibly and make data-backed budget allocation decisions.
*Experience explaining campaign results in terms of business impact.
*Excellent problem-solving, communication, prioritization, and strategic planning skills.
*Mandatory Performance Expectations
*The successful candidate must demonstrate:
*Real campaign experience: Hands-on experience managing campaigns, advertising budgets, and performance targets, not *just theoretical platform knowledge.
*CPL expertise: The ability to calculate, diagnose, forecast, and optimize cost per lead while maintaining lead quality.
*CPC expertise: A clear understanding of Google Ads auctions, keyword intent, competition, Quality Score, and the factors influencing click costs.
*Optimization expertise: The ability to identify performance bottlenecks and implement a structured optimization plan.
*Scaling expertise: Experience increasing lead volume and advertising budgets efficiently while monitoring marginal CPL and lead quality.
*Tracking expertise: The ability to verify conversion data and identify tracking issues before making optimization decisions.
*Agency-level execution: The ability to manage multiple client accounts, meet deadlines, and communicate effectively with internal teams.
*Evidence of results: The ability to present case studies, account performance data, or verifiable examples of campaign outcomes, subject to client confidentiality.
Preferred Additional Skills
*Experience in high-competition industries and lead-generation businesses.
*Strong knowledge of Local Services Ads, where relevant to the business.
*Knowledge of landing page conversion rate optimization (CRO).
