About the Role

About the firm

We're a Canadian CPA-led accounting firm helping small-business owners understand their finances, improve their systems and keep more of what they earn.

Our team works together across Edmonton, Manila and Puerto Princesa. We value clear communication, practical solutions and reliable work.

The role

We're hiring a Senior Accountant to prepare Canadian small-business files from client records through to CPA review. You'll prepare compilation engagements, year-end working papers and tax returns, while helping junior and intermediate accountants develop their skills.

You'll report to our production manager, who coordinates workflow and priorities. This is primarily an internal role, suited to an experienced Canadian public practice accountant who enjoys preparing files, solving problems and supporting colleagues.

What you'll do

Prepare compilation engagement files under CSRS 4200, including year-end working papers and financial statements in CaseWare.
Prepare T2 corporate returns, T1 personal returns, supporting schedules and T-slips for CPA review.
Review QuickBooks Online records for accurate coding, GST/HST treatment and transaction completeness.
Prepare account reconciliations, GST/HST working papers and year-end adjusting entries with clear supporting documentation.
Investigate discrepancies and missing information and flag matters requiring further accounting or tax judgment to our Canadian CPA.
Assist junior and intermediate accountants with technical questions, reconciliations and file preparation, explain corrections and help them apply reviewer feedback.
Respond thoroughly to review notes and apply feedback to future files.
Keep tasks and file status current in Karbon, coordinate priorities with the production manager and flag potential delays early.

What you'll bring

At least five years of accounting experience, including Canadian compilation engagements and corporate and personal tax preparation.
Hands-on CaseWare Working Papers experience and the ability to prepare files through to reviewer submission.
Experience with Canadian tax software. TaxCycle is preferred; ProFile, Taxprep or similar experience is welcome.
Practical knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal tax, GST/HST and T-slips.
Strong QuickBooks Online and Excel skills.
Clear written and spoken English, with the ability to explain accounting issues and give constructive feedback.
Strong organization and the ability to balance your own deadlines with supporting colleagues.
A quiet home workspace and reliable internet.
Helpful, but not required: Philippine CPA designation or progress toward it; experience training junior accountants; Karbon or Dext experience; QBO ProAdvisor certification; Alberta corporate tax experience.

If you meet most of these requirements and have strong Canadian file-preparation experience, we encourage you to apply.

Schedule and work-life balance

Fully remote, with at least half your working day overlapping Alberta business hours, including availability for team meetings between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m. Alberta time (3:30–5:00 a.m. Philippine time the following day).
Your remaining hours are flexible around agreed deadlines and team coordination. This role requires regular overnight availability in the Philippines.
Corporate year-ends are spread throughout the year, helping distribute the workload. Some periods are busier, but overtime is not a regular expectation.

Compensation and benefits

₱100,000–₱130,000 per month, depending on relevant experience, plus 13th month pay.
Paid public holidays following the firm's Canadian holiday schedule, exchangeable day-for-day for Philippine holidays by prior arrangement.
Company-provided laptop, equipment and peripherals.
Paid professional development.
An annual reimbursed birthday treat.
Mid-year and Christmas virtual team gatherings.
Opportunities to develop your technical and coaching skills.
