Music Listening Annotator

We're looking for people with a good ear to listen to short music clips and answer simple questions about what they hear. The answers help build music datasets. The work is done on a website from your phone or computer, whenever it suits you.

What you'll do

• Listen to short clips (about 10 seconds each) and answer one question per clip by tapping a button. For example:
• Is a guitar playing in the marked part?
• Is there a drum kit, only percussion, or no drums?
• Does this sound like a real recording or computer-rendered?
• Which of two chords fits this bar?
• Is there a steady beat?
• Most clips take 5–15 seconds to answer. Your progress saves automatically, so you can stop and continue at any time.

How it starts

• You get a personal invite link and set your own password.
• You take a short listener test (40 clips, about 15 minutes) and can listen to about 2 minutes of examples first.
• Once your test is reviewed and approved, the real tasks open.

What we're looking for

• Good hearing, and the ability to tell common instruments apart: guitar vs bass vs piano, drum kit vs percussion.
• Some musical background is helpful: playing an instrument, singing, producing or close listening. Formal training isn't required.
• Careful, consistent attention. Answer "can't tell" honestly rather than guessing.
• Headphones or good earphones and a quiet place.
• A smartphone or computer with a stable internet connection.

• Fully remote, flexible schedule, no minimum session length.
• Pay: 10USD for 500 clips
• Expected volume: 1,500 clips over 1-2 weeks
• Payment schedule: on-completion.
