About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Civil Designer to produce and quality-check the CAD and drafting side of our submittals, working from direction given by the Senior Civil Engineer and staff engineers.

Responsibilities
Prepare grading, drainage, erosion control, and utility sheets in Civil 3D from engineer markups and the project’s approved Design Basis Memo.
Build and maintain surfaces, profiles, sections, and sheet sets, and generate earthwork quantities for engineer review.
Prepare BMP exhibits, details, and callouts for WQMP/SWQMP packages according to the applicable regional manual.
Prepare erosion control and SWPPP BMP sheets. The designer prepares the sheets; a QSD prepares and signs the SWPPP.
Incorporate plan-check redlines and support the comment response matrix for each resubmittal.
Perform a drafting QC pass before every submittal using the firm checklist: callouts, standard drawing references, sheet index, scales, legends, general notes, and consistency across sheets.
Maintain CAD templates, blocks, the details library, and sheet-set standards.
Flag in writing any conflict between an engineer’s markup and the California Building Code or a jurisdiction’s standards. Escalate the conflict rather than resolving it independently.
Provide a daily written status update and keep questions and decisions documented in the project folder.
Support staff engineers by answering drafting and standards questions and explaining what each jurisdiction expects to see on a sheet, in sessions scheduled by mutual agreement.

Required Qualifications
Five or more years of civil and land development design experience, with a portfolio of California permit sets.
Advanced Civil 3D proficiency, including surfaces, profiles, corridors, sheet sets, and xrefs.
Working knowledge of California practice:
Grading: California Building Code Chapter 18 and Appendix J, and local grading ordinances.
Hydrology: county hydrology manual conventions.
Stormwater: regional WQMP/SWQMP requirements.
Erosion control: the Construction General Permit.
Standards: Greenbook, SDRSD, Caltrans, and city standard drawings.
Accessibility: CBC Chapter 11B.
Direct experience with plan-check cycles in Southern California jurisdictions.
Clear written English and reliable availability during the overlap hours.
Successful completion of a paid practical screening exercise.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with ADU and single-family residential grading packages.
Bluebeam Revu proficiency.
Familiarity with hydrology and hydraulic calculation tools.
