About the Role

We're a US-based consulting and distribution company (single-owner LLCs, pass-through to the owner's personal return). We're catching up on several years of unfiled US returns, and we need an experienced US tax professional to take charge of gathering every record we need, then help prepare the returns.

WHAT YOU'LL DO FIRST (records retrieval):

  • Act as our authorized representative with the IRS under a signed power of attorney (Form 2848) or tax information authorization (Form 8821)
  • Pull IRS Wage & Income and Account transcripts for every year needed (about ---------- ), for the owner personally and for the business EINs
  • Request missing 1099s/W-2s and any IRS notices on file, and pull state records where needed
  • Build one organized checklist showing what we have, what's missing, and what each year still needs

THEN (back-filing):

  • Prepare or support preparation of the late returns (1040 with Schedule C/E, possibly 1120-S/1065), working with our bank statements, invoices and books
  • Flag penalty/abatement options and anything an examiner would question

MUST HAVE:

  • US Enrolled Agent (EA) with an active PTIN and CAF number. Strongly preferred, since only an EA, CPA or attorney can represent us under Form 2848. Non-EAs with deep IRS transcript/8821 experience may still apply - tell us exactly what you've done
  • Real experience with multi-year back-filing (unfiled returns), not just current-year 1040s
  • Comfortable calling the IRS Practitioner Priority Service and using IRS e-Services / Tax Pro Account
  • Excellent written English, organized, discreet with financial data

NICE TO HAVE:

  • Experience with small business owners who have international activity
  • QuickBooks / bookkeeping cleanup

Part time to start (around 20 hrs/week), more as the back-filing ramps up. Long-term work for the right person.

TO APPLY, put "EA-READY" at the top of your message and include:
1. Are you a US Enrolled Agent? Your PTIN and CAF number (or the date you passed the SEE)
2. How many years of unfiled returns have you helped bring current, and for what kind of clients
3. Have you pulled transcripts under a 2848/8821 before, and how (PPS phone line, e-Services, Tax Pro Account)
4. Your rate (hourly or monthly)
5. Your availability in US Eastern hours
