WordPress Content Specialist
St. Louis, Missouri • Remote (Philippines-based)
About Lelander
Lelander is a St. Louis–based software and tech consultancy that partners with agencies and organizations to build custom digital solutions, from mobile apps to complex web platforms. Our work is collaborative, thoughtful, and shaped by a flexible mindset. We value people who enjoy working independently but want to be part of a respectful, communicative team.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly organized and technically proficient WordPress Content Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for loading, formatting, and publishing content across a diverse portfolio of WordPress websites, as well as collaborating closely with our SEO team to ensure our sites remain healthy and optimized.
Because our websites vary greatly—ranging from fully custom builds with different base themes to purchased or inherited themes—we need someone who is highly adaptable and comfortable navigating different WordPress environments.
Please note: This is not a web developer role (you won't be writing PHP or building custom plugins). However, a deep, fundamental understanding of how WordPress works under the hood, how different themes behave, and how to troubleshoot basic formatting or structural issues is critical for success.
Key Responsibilities
- Content Loading & Formatting: Input, format, and publish text, images, videos, and other media across a wide variety of WordPress sites.
- SEO Implementation: Work hand-in-hand with the SEO team to execute on-page updates, fix structural issues, and apply optimizations based on routine site audits.
- Redirect Management: Safely configure, map, and test 301 redirects (using plugins like Redirection, Yoast, etc.) during content updates or site restructures to preserve link equity and prevent 404 errors.
- Theme Navigation: Confidently navigate and utilize various WordPress setups, including custom themes, premium/purchased themes, inherited legacy themes, and popular page builders (e.g., Gutenberg, Elementor, Divi, WPBakery).
- Quality Assurance: Review all loaded content on the front-end across multiple devices to ensure formatting is clean, responsive, and aligns with the site's design guidelines.
- Media Management: Upload and manage media assets, ensuring images are properly sized, compressed, and tagged with appropriate alt text.
- Light Troubleshooting: Use basic HTML/CSS knowledge to fix minor formatting quirks or layout issues that often arise within WYSIWYG editors or page builders.
- Process Management: Keep track of content status, manage drafts, and coordinate cross-functionally with designers, project managers, and the SEO team to ensure deadlines are met.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Proven WordPress Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience using WordPress as a CMS. You should know the dashboard like the back of your hand (Posts, Pages, Custom Post Types, Menus, Widgets, Media Library).
- Technical Aptitude: While you do not need to be a developer, you must have a strong technical understanding of how WordPress themes, plugins, and page builders interact.
- SEO & Redirect Competency: Practical experience executing basic on-page SEO tasks and a solid understanding of how to safely implement URL redirects.
- Basic Code Literacy: Working knowledge of basic HTML and CSS to resolve minor formatting issues without needing to escalate to a developer.
- Adaptability: Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new, unfamiliar, or poorly documented WordPress environments and inherited themes.
- Extreme Attention to Detail: A sharp eye for design consistency, typography, and spacing to ensure the final published pages look polished.
- Time Management: Ability to juggle multiple sites, content pipelines, and SEO punch-lists simultaneously.
Nice-to-Haves (Optional)
- Familiarity with basic image editing tools (Photoshop, Canva, Figma) for quick cropping or resizing.
- Experience with specific SEO tools like Google Search Console (to better speak the SEO team's language).
