About the Role

ESTIMATOR – AUSTRALIAN CONSTRUCTION (REMOTE)

About Catalyst Constructions
Catalyst is a Brisbane-based construction company delivering commercial, residential, modular, health, community and government projects across Queensland. We build both conventional site-built and bespoke modular projects. Our work is built on precision, accountability and strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and each other.

The Role
You will price the work. You will take the tenders allocated to you and turn them into a complete, structured estimate. That means reviewing the documents, raising RFIs, measuring the plans and building the estimate to set deadlines. You will report to our Estimating Manager in Brisbane and work as part of the estimating team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review full tender sets (drawings, specifications, contract conditions, scope) and identify gaps or conflicts
  • Draft RFIs and track responses and addenda through to the final estimate
  • Set up each estimate in Catalyst's standard tender template and cost codes
  • Produce accurate quantity take-offs from drawings, with the basis of every quantity recorded
  • Build estimates line by line using Catalyst's current rates, including preliminaries priced from the program
  • Separate modular and site-built scope, allowing for transport, craneage and installation
  • Document the rate, source and assumption behind every allowance
  • Present your estimate at the tender review meeting and answer questions on any line
  • Make amendments, complete final checks and file the finalised tender to the Catalyst standard
  • Prepare pricing schedules, qualifications, exclusions and submission documents for proposals
  • Next step: take on trade pricing. This means issuing enquiries, levelling subcontractor quotes and maintaining the enquiry register

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years' experience as a construction estimator or quantity surveyor
  • Experience pricing Australian construction projects is strongly preferred
  • Strong quantity take-off skills using digital take-off software
  • Solid understanding of building trades, construction sequencing and preliminaries
  • Excellent written English, for RFIs, qualifications and clear reporting
  • Highly organised. You meet deadlines and raise issues early rather than late
  • Experience with Buildern or similar estimating software is a plus (training provided)
  • Modular or prefabricated construction experience is a bonus

Working Hours
Must be available during Australian business hours (Brisbane time, AEST, UTC+10).

What We Provide

  • Clear task allocation and deadlines on every tender, set at a pre-tender meeting
  • Direct access to the Estimating Manager for input, rates and decisions
  • Estimating software, tender templates and our cost code structure
  • A long-term role with a defined progression pathway: trade pricing first, then towards Senior Estimator

How to Apply
Start your application with the words "Catalyst Estimator". Include a summary of your estimating experience, the types of projects you have priced, and the software you use. Applications without this will not be considered.
