Bookkeeping Auditor
Confidential employer
About the Opportunity
We are looking for a detail-oriented, analytical, and highly organized Bookkeeping Auditor to help ensure the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of our financial records.
In this role, you’ll review bookkeeping entries, financial transactions, invoices, receipts, expense records, and reconciliations to identify errors, inconsistencies, missing documentation, and potential issues. You’ll help maintain accurate financial records by verifying that transactions are properly recorded, supporting documents are complete, and discrepancies are identified and addressed.
This position is ideal for someone with a sharp eye for detail, a strong understanding of bookkeeping principles, and the ability to investigate financial discrepancies rather than simply flagging them. We’re looking for someone who takes ownership of their work and understands the importance of accuracy, consistency, and confidentiality.

- Identify duplicate entries, missing transactions, incorrect classifications, and mathematical errors.
- Review adjustments and corrections to ensure they are properly documented and accurately reflected in the books.
Discrepancy Identification & Investigation
- Identify unusual transactions, unexplained balances, missing receipts, inconsistent amounts, and other financial irregularities.
- Investigate discrepancies by tracing transactions back to bank records, invoices, receipts, payment confirmations, and other source documents.
- Determine the likely cause of errors and document findings clearly.
- Coordinate with bookkeeping staff or relevant team members to clarify questionable entries and obtain missing documentation.
- Recommend corrective actions and follow up to ensure identified issues are resolved.
- Escalate significant, recurring, or unresolved discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
Quality Control & Process Improvement
- Conduct routine reviews of bookkeeping records to maintain consistent quality and accuracy.
- Develop and maintain checklists or review procedures to ensure financial records meet established standards.
- Monitor recurring errors and identify opportunities to strengthen bookkeeping workflows.
- Recommend improvements to documentation practices, transaction categorization, and internal financial controls.
- Help establish reliable review processes that reduce errors and improve accountability.
- Verify that previously identified issues have been corrected and do not continue to recur.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare clear reports summarizing audit findings, identified discrepancies, corrections needed, and unresolved issues.
- Maintain organized records of completed reviews, supporting documents, and corrective actions.
- Track outstanding audit findings and follow up with responsible team members.
- Provide management with accurate information regarding financial record quality and recurring bookkeeping issues.
- Ensure audit trails are maintained so transactions and adjustments can be traced and reviewed when necessary.
Confidentiality & Professional Standards
- Handle financial records, banking information, and sensitive business data with strict confidentiality.
- Follow established financial procedures, documentation requirements, and access controls.
- Maintain objectivity and accuracy when reviewing financial information.
- Ensure findings are supported by verifiable records and documented evidence.
- Exercise sound judgment when identifying issues that require further investigation or escalation.
What We’re Looking For

Ideal candidates will have:
- Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounting, financial auditing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, or financial quality control.
- A solid understanding of bookkeeping principles, debits and credits, and financial transaction recording.
- Experience reviewing invoices, receipts, bank statements, expense records, and financial reports.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when investigating discrepancies.
- Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to identify errors that others may overlook.
