About Agency Hero

Agency Hero is a digital marketing company specializing in white-label SEO and WordPress services for agencies. We work behind the scenes as an extension of our agency partners' teams, helping businesses improve organic and local search visibility through SEO strategy, content, technical optimization, Local SEO, and emerging AI search strategies.
We are looking for an experienced Content Strategist to join our SEO team. This role requires strong experience developing content strategies for local and service-area businesses, as well as broader organic SEO campaigns.

This is not primarily a content writing position. We need someone who can analyze websites, local and organic search opportunities, competitors, geographic markets, search intent, and SEO data to determine what content to create or improve, why it should exist, how it should be structured, and how it fits into the overall SEO strategy.

What You'll Do
-As a Content Strategist, you will develop and improve SEO content strategies across client websites, with a significant focus on Local SEO and service-area businesses.
-Develop SEO-driven content strategies for local, service-area, regional, and broader organic campaigns.
Perform keyword research and search-intent analysis, including local and geographic search intent.
-Analyze local SERPs, organic competitors, geographic competitors, and content gaps.
Identify new content opportunities based on services, locations, search demand, competitors, and business priorities.
-Determine when service pages, city/location pages, service-area pages, supporting informational content, and other page types should be created.
-Develop service-to-location content strategies without creating unnecessary, thin, duplicative, or doorway-style pages.
-Audit existing website content and identify pages that should be improved, consolidated, expanded, redirected, or removed.
-Develop topic clusters and supporting content designed to strengthen topical and local authority.
-Map keywords, services, topics, locations, and search intent to appropriate pages.
-Plan website content architecture, including service, location, service-area, and supporting content relationships.
-Develop internal linking strategies that strengthen priority service and location pages.
-Identify and prevent keyword, topic, service, and location cannibalization.
-Create detailed content briefs for writers.
-Analyze competitor websites and SERPs to understand what is required to compete in specific markets.
-Review content for SEO effectiveness, quality, relevance, search intent, local relevance, and publication readiness.
-Consider how website content supports broader local visibility, including Google Business Profile and Map Pack performance.
-Work with other members of our SEO, Local SEO, technical, and content teams.
-Use AI tools to improve research, analysis, strategy development, and workflow efficiency.
-Help develop strategies for traditional Google Search, local search, Google AI experiences, and emerging AI-driven search platforms.

Required Experience
We are looking for candidates with demonstrated professional experience in:

-SEO content strategy.
-Local SEO content strategy for local and service-area businesses.
-Developing service-page and location-page strategies.
-Keyword research and local keyword research.
-Search-intent and geographic-intent analysis.
-Competitor and local competitor research.
-Content-gap analysis.
-Content auditing and optimization.
-Developing content plans and detailed briefs.
-On-page SEO.
-Internal linking.
-Using SEO data to make content decisions.
-Professional content writing and editing experience, with the ability to produce, improve, and evaluate publication-ready SEO content.
-Working with AI tools such as Claude, ChatGPT, or similar platforms in professional SEO or content workflows.

This is a full-time employee position, not a freelance or contract role. Candidates should have significant professional experience working for or within a digital marketing agency, ideally supporting multiple client accounts and working within established SEO, content, and quality-control processes.

Local SEO Knowledge
Candidates should have strong working knowledge of:

-Local search intent and geographic keyword targeting.
-Service-page strategy.
-City and location-page strategy.
-Service-area business SEO.
-Local content architecture and service-to-location relationships.
-Local competitor and SERP analysis.
-Determining when location-specific pages are justified by search intent and business needs.
-Avoiding thin, duplicate, templated, or doorway-style local pages.
-Local keyword and content cannibalization.
-Internal linking for service and location pages.
-Building topical relevance around priority services and markets.
-The relationship between website content, Google Business Profile, organic local results, and Map Pack visibility.
-Multi-location and multi-market content considerations.

Advanced SEO Skills
Strong candidates should also understand:

-Topical authority and topic clustering.
-Content architecture.
-Keyword, entity, and topic mapping.
-E-E-A-T principles.
-YMYL considerations.
-Search intent.
-Content cannibalization.
-Internal linking strategy.
-Competitor analysis.
-SEO content auditing.
-Content prioritization.
-Google Search Console data.
-Modern search behavior and the evolving relationship between traditional SEO, Local SEO, and AI search.

Experience with tools such as Ahrefs, Semrush, Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, and Local SEO/rank-tracking tools is valuable.

AI & Claude Experience
AI is an important part of how our team works. We are particularly interested in candidates who know how to use AI for more than simply generating content.
You should be comfortable using AI to assist with:

-Research and analysis.
-Local and organic content-gap identification.
-Competitor and SERP analysis.
-Content strategy and prioritization.
-Service and location content planning.
-Content briefs.
-SEO analysis.
-Reviewing and improving existing content.
-Identifying entity, topic, and question-coverage opportunities.
-Developing repeatable workflows.

Experience using Claude Projects, Claude Skills, custom GPTs, or other structured/reusable AI workflows is a strong advantage but is not required.

We can teach our specific systems to someone with excellent SEO/content strategy skills who can learn sophisticated AI workflows.

AI Search Visibility
We also want this person to understand how search is evolving beyond traditional organic rankings.

The strategist should be able to consider how content can improve visibility across Google AI experiences and AI-driven platforms such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot.

This includes thinking about entity clarity, topical coverage, question coverage, authoritative supporting content, and how local businesses and their services, locations, and expertise are represented across the web.

AI search knowledge is important, but it does not replace strong traditional and Local SEO fundamentals.

What We're Looking For
We want someone who:

-Thinks strategically rather than simply completing tasks.
-Has strong Local SEO instincts as well as broader organic SEO knowledge.
-Can determine whether a local content opportunity actually deserves a dedicated page.
-Can explain the reasoning behind recommendations.
-Has strong professional content writing and editing experience and can recognize excellent versus mediocre content.
-Can independently improve content to a publication-ready standard when needed.
-Is highly analytical.
-Has strong attention to detail.
-Can work independently.
-Follows instructions carefully.
-Communicates clearly.
-Is comfortable learning new technology and workflows.
-Understands that AI should enhance strategic thinking rather than replace it.
-Can identify opportunities rather than waiting to be told exactly what to do.
