About the Role

We are a UK-based architecture practice delivering residential and light commercial projects across the UK. We are building a remote engineering team to support our design work from concept through to construction. This is a long-term role with room to grow as we scale.

You will provide structural design and calculations for UK residential and light commercial projects, working directly with our UK-based team. You will be the structural lead on multiple projects, producing calculations, drawings, and specifications that meet UK Building Regulations and British Standards.

This is not a junior role. We need someone who can take a project brief, ask the right questions, and deliver structural packages with minimal hand-holding.

Key Responsibilities

· Produce structural designs and calculations for:
· Residential extensions, loft conversions, and renovations
· New-build residential properties
· Basement design and retaining structures
· Light commercial fit-outs and small structures
· Design in steel, timber, masonry, and concrete to Eurocodes and British Standards
· Design structural steelwork including box frame design
· Design steel connections (bolted and welded)
· Prepare structural drawings, details, and specifications for construction
· Liaise with UK architects, contractors, and Building Control bodies
· Review and respond to structural queries during construction
· Attend occasional video calls during UK hours
· Manage multiple projects simultaneously and hit deadlines

Essential Requirements

· Minimum 5 years' experience designing to UK standards (Eurocodes, British Standards)
· Steel design experience is mandatory — including box frame design and connection design (bolted and welded)
· Basement design experience is mandatory — retaining walls, waterproofing coordination, and below-ground structures
· Tekla Tedds proficiency is mandatory — this is your primary calculation tool
· Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations (Part A structural, Part L thermal bridging)
· Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit is a strong advantage)
· Experience producing full structural calculation packages
· Excellent written and spoken English
· Reliable internet connection and ability to work UK hours
· Ability to work independently and communicate proactively

Desirable

· Experience with residential projects (extensions, lofts, new builds, basements)
· Familiarity with UK planning and Building Control processes
· Revit/BIM experience
· Experience working remotely with UK clients or teams
· Chartered or working toward chartership (IStructE or ICE)

What We Offer

· Full-time, permanent remote position
· Long-term role with growth potential as the practice scales
· Direct collaboration with UK-based architects and engineers
