Book Writer / Ghostwriter: Leadership Book Rewrite
Confidential employer
About the project
Leading with Heart is looking for a professional writer to rewrite an existing leadership book into a stronger Version 2. The book presents a heart-centered leadership model developed by the authors, Dr. Jeff Kaplan and Dr. Dan Young. The new edition keeps that model at its core and goes further: more research, proper citations, improved graphics, and a book that reads well from the first page to the last.
What the work involves
- Rewriting the existing manuscript as a new book, under the same title or as a second edition
- Researching and citing sources on the leadership problems organizations face today, and on why a heart-centered approach matter
- Drawing on the author's own materials, including findings from our 360-assessment research
- Meeting with the first author to understand his voice, his model and what he wants readers to take away
What we are looking for
- Professional writing experience, with a portfolio of long-form work such as books, ghostwriting or comparable projects
- Original human writing only. We do not accept AI-generated text.
- Strong research skills and accurate, consistent citation
- A good ear for voice, so the finished book sounds like the author
- Nice to have, : a background in psychology, leadership, business, human services or mental health
How we will select
1. Application. Send your portfolio, a short description of your relevant experience and the type of work you have done, your knowledge of the subject, and your expected rate.
2. Screening interview with our team.
3. Meeting with the author. Shortlisted candidates get an overview of the author and the project directly from Dr. Kaplan.
4. Proposal. Each finalist submits a proposal covering what you would do with the book, the specific areas you would focus on, your vision for the finished product, your estimated timeline and your cost. Finalists are evaluated on three factors: vision, experience, and cost.
5. Hiring. The selected writer reads the full manuscript first, then confirms a realistic final timeline. Three working sessions with the author are scheduled after hiring.
