About the Role
Key responsibilities:
Close and reporting
- Own the monthly close for all four entities and deliver it within 10 working days, with a documented close checklist.
- Produce monthly management accounts per entity (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and a consolidated group view, including a clear NL vs. HQ split.
- Prepare the monthly investor pack inputs: revenue by country and dealer, gross margin, burn rate, runway, cash position, EBITDA.
- Explain variances: budget vs. actual, month vs. month, with the drivers behind them.
Revenue and settlement control
- Own revenue recognition: platform data, Stripe and the ledger must agree before anything is booked.
- Review dealer settlements and venue/partner commission statements before they go out, and fix root causes when sources disagree.
- Define and maintain the policies behind settlements (e.g. treatment of refunds, non-return fees, adjustments).
Cash and planning
- Maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast and the monthly liquidity plan per entity.
- Update the annual budget and rolling forecast together with the finance lead.
- Monitor payments due and working capital (AR/AP ageing) and flag risks early.
Intercompany and tax
- Own the intercompany framework: payroll cost allocation, management fees, licence/royalty fees, product mark-up, loans and current accounts, reconciled and agreed every month.
- Maintain the schedules needed for transfer-pricing documentation.
- Review NL VAT returns and ICP listings, reverse-charge and intra-Community treatment before filing.
- Coordinate the NL year-end (jaarrekening, VPB) with the external accountant and the HK audit and profits tax with the auditor and company secretary.
- Escalate any VAT or cross-entity question to the external accountant for sign-off; you prepare and review, they confirm.
Bookkeeping (hands-on, decreasing over time)
- Process invoices, bank, Stripe and Airwallex reconciliations, payroll journals and accruals while no separate bookkeeper is in place.
- Write the SOPs that allow this work to be handed to a bookkeeper later, and review that work once it is.
Controls, systems and fixed assets
- Set up and maintain internal controls: approval flows, segregation of duties, reconciliation sign-offs, audit trail.
- Lead the finance side of the Exact Online to Odoo migration: chart of accounts, VAT codes, entity setup, bank feeds, reporting.
- Own the fixed-asset register for the station and power bank fleet and its depreciation.
- Automate recurring work wherever the volume justifies it.
Must have:
- A bachelor's degree or other higher education in accounting, finance or a related field.
- 7+ years in accounting and finance, of which at least 3 in a controller or senior accountant role.
- Experience owning the close and management reporting for a multi-entity group with intercompany flows and consolidation.
- Solid working knowledge of EU VAT mechanics (returns, reverse charge, intra-Community supplies).
- Strong financial modelling in Excel/Google Sheets: cash flow forecasts, budgets, variance analysis.
- Fluent English, written and spoken; able to read Dutch invoices and statements (translation tools are fine).
- Willing and able to do hands-on bookkeeping alongside the controlling work.
Nice to have
- A professional accounting qualification (e.g. CPA, ACCA, CMA).
- Hands-on Dutch VAT, ICP and Dutch GAAP / IFRS experience.
- Experience with Hong Kong entities (audit cycle, profits tax, company secretary).
- Transfer-pricing documentation and royalty/licence flows.
- Odoo or Exact Online, ideally a migration between systems.
- Payment-platform reconciliation (Stripe, Adyen, Airwallex) at high transaction volume.
- Experience serving European clients remotely as an independent freelancer, ideally startups or scale-ups.
How you work
- You own the numbers and flag problems early, with a proposed fix.
- You build processes and controls that scale, and document them so they can be checked, repeated and automated.
- You know where your expertise ends and when to bring in the accountant.
