Short-Form Video Editor – Storytelling & Personal Brand Content
Confidential employer
We’re looking for a **strong short-form video editor who understands storytelling, hooks, pacing, emotion, and retention
This is not a role for someone who only knows how to add captions, transitions, and effects.
We want an editor who can look at raw footage and figure out:
- What is the strongest hook?
- What part should come first?
- What can be cut?
- Where does the story drag?
- How do we create curiosity?
- How do we make someone keep watching until the end?
You’ll be helping us build a founder/personal brand across TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, and other social platforms.
What You’ll Be Editing
Most content will include:
- Founder talking-head videos
- Personal stories and experiences
- Business and marketing insights
- Entrepreneurship content
- Behind-the-scenes footage
- Lifestyle / day-in-the-life content
- Podcast-style conversations
- Educational videos
- Longer recordings turned into multiple short-form clips
Your Main Job
Your job is not simply to “make the video look good.”
Your job is to find the story and make it interesting to watch.
A good editor should be able to take a raw 5–15 minute recording and turn it into a strong 30–90 second piece of content.
Sometimes that means:
- Starting with something said halfway through the recording
- Rearranging the sequence
- Cutting 80% of the footage
- Building curiosity before revealing the answer
- Using B-roll to make the story clearer
- Adding pauses at the right moments
- Speeding up sections that feel slow
- Removing anything that does not move the story forward
We’re Looking for Someone Who Understands
Hooks
The first few seconds matter.
You should understand how to open a video with something that makes people want to continue watching.
Storytelling
You understand how to structure content around:
Hook → Context → Tension / Curiosity → Story → Payoff
Retention
You naturally notice when a video starts becoming boring and know how to fix it.
Pacing
Not everything needs to be hyper-fast.
You should understand when to cut quickly and when to let a moment breathe.
Emotion
Good content should make people feel something.
Curiosity, surprise, inspiration, tension, humour, relatability, or emotion.
Taste
We prefer clean, modern editing.
We do NOT want every second filled with:
- Random animations
- Giant captions
- Emojis everywhere
- Constant zooms
- Unnecessary sound effects
- Overdone transitions
Editing should support the story, not distract from it.
Responsibilities
You will:
- Edit short-form videos for TikTok, Reels and YouTube Shorts
- Review raw footage and identify the strongest stories and moments
- Create strong openings and hooks
- Restructure footage when needed to improve storytelling
- Remove unnecessary sections and improve pacing
- Add captions, B-roll, graphics, music and sound effects where appropriate
- Turn long-form recordings into multiple short-form clips
- Suggest better hooks or story structures when you see an opportunity
- Follow our brand's visual and editing direction
- Organize footage and project files properly
- Complete revisions based on feedback
- Study high-performing content and continuously improve our editing style
Requirements
You should have:
- Strong experience editing short-form social media content
- Excellent understanding of storytelling
- Strong English comprehension
- Good sense of pacing and rhythm
- Understanding of TikTok, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts
- Ability to work independently
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to receive feedback and improve quickly
- Reliable communication
- Consistent ability to meet deadlines
You should be comfortable using software such as:
- Adobe Premiere Pro
- DaVinci Resolve
- Final Cut Pro
- CapCut Desktop
After Effects experience is a bonus but not required.
Bonus If You...
- Have edited for founders or personal brands
- Understand direct-response marketing
- Understand why some hooks outperform others
- Can identify viral-worthy moments inside longer recordings
- Watch and study high-performing short-form content regularly
- Understand YouTube retention
- Can suggest content ideas, hooks or angles
- Have experience with founder, entrepreneurship or business content
The Type of Editor We Want
When you watch content, we want you to naturally think:
“The video should have started here.”
“This part is too slow.”
“That sentence is actually the hook.”
“We should show this before explaining it.”
“This section adds nothing to the story.”
If that sounds like the way your brain works, you may be a great fit.
