About the Role

Social Media Video Editor
(Freelance / Gig-Based | Remote | Potential Pathway to Part-Time & Full-Time)
Are you the kind of video editor who can turn ordinary raw footage into content people actually stop scrolling to watch?

Do you understand how pacing, captions, sound effects, music, animation, visual layers, transitions and pattern interrupts work together to hold attention?

Can you take a relatively simple talking-head video and transform it into high-quality, engaging and visually dynamic social media content?

We are looking for a highly capable Social Media Video Editor to work remotely with an Australian consulting business and its owner across multiple brands and content channels.

The initial arrangement will be freelance/gig-based work at $10 AUD per hour, with the potential to develop into regular part-time work and ultimately a full-time position for the right person as our content production grows.

This is not an entry-level video editing opportunity.
We are looking for someone who already possesses the technical and creative capability to produce content to the standard demonstrated in the reference videos below.

IMPORTANT: Please Watch These Videos Before Applying

About the Role
Your primary responsibility will be turning raw video footage, ideas and creative direction into highly engaging social media content designed to capture attention, retain viewers, strengthen a personal brand and increase engagement across multiple businesses.

Content will primarily include:

  • Instagram and Facebook Reels
  • YouTube Shorts
  • Talking-head videos
  • Educational and thought-leadership content
  • Personal-brand content
  • Promotional and marketing videos
  • Longer-form YouTube content where required
  • Short-form viral-style content designed around strong hooks and viewer retention

You will work directly from raw footage and creative briefs, but we don't want someone who simply waits to be told where every cut, caption or sound effect should go.

We want an editor who can think creatively about the content, understand the intended audience and message, and make intelligent editing decisions that improve the final video.

Key Responsibilities
Video Editing & Post-Production

  • Edit raw footage into polished, professional and highly engaging social media videos.
  • Produce short-form content for Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels and YouTube Shorts.
  • Edit longer-form video content where required.
  • Create strong pacing using cuts, zooms, transitions and visual movement.
  • Remove unnecessary pauses, filler and dead space while maintaining natural delivery.
  • Improve the overall visual and audio quality of raw footage.
  • Repurpose longer-form footage into multiple pieces of short-form content where appropriate.

Captions, Motion & Animation

  • Create visually engaging animated captions and subtitles.
  • Use typography creatively to emphasise important words, ideas and moments.
  • Incorporate motion graphics, animated elements and visual effects.
  • Create multiple visual layers within scenes rather than relying exclusively on basic cuts.
  • Manipulate or replace backgrounds where appropriate.
  • Incorporate images, graphics, screenshots, B-roll and other visual assets to strengthen storytelling.
  • Use animation and movement to maintain attention without making the content feel unnecessarily over-edited.

Sound Design
Sound design is an important part of this role.
You should be confident using:

  • Sound effects
  • Music
  • Audio transitions
  • Emphasis sounds
  • Ambient/background audio
  • Audio levelling and clean-up
  • Strategic moments of silence

Sound should support the story and increase engagement rather than simply being added for the sake of it.

Creative & Retention-Focused Editing
We want someone who understands that social media editing is ultimately about attention and communication, not simply technical editing.

You should understand concepts such as:

  • Strong opening hooks
  • Viewer retention
  • Pattern interrupts
  • Pacing
  • Curiosity
  • Visual hierarchy
  • Emotional emphasis
  • Storytelling
  • Maintaining visual interest
  • Knowing when to make an edit – and when not to

Software & Technical Capability
Experience with some or several of the following is highly regarded:

  • CapCut
  • DaVinci Resolve
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Adobe Express
  • Adobe Firefly
  • Adobe After Effects or similar motion graphics software
  • Other professional video editing and animation platforms

We are not concerned about which particular program you prefer if the quality of your finished work meets the required standard.

Your portfolio and demonstrated editing capability will matter considerably more than a list of software on your CV.
AI Content Creation – Highly Regarded

Experience incorporating AI into video production is highly regarded, including:

  • AI-generated images
  • AI-generated video
  • Generative fill and background creation
  • AI animation
  • Creating consistent characters or visual assets
  • AI-assisted B-roll
  • Digital AI twins or avatars
  • AI-assisted video enhancement
  • Other emerging generative video technologies

This is preferred rather than essential.

More important is having the curiosity and technical ability to learn and adopt new creative technologies as they emerge.

About You
You are not simply someone who knows how to operate video editing software.
You have a creative eye.
You notice the small details that separate an average social media video from a highly polished one.
You understand timing. You understand sound. You understand visual storytelling. You know when a video needs movement, when it needs another visual layer, when a caption should change, and when something needs to happen to regain the viewer's attention.
You take pride in the quality of your work and don't submit something simply because it is technically "finished".
You are also comfortable receiving feedback and making revisions without becoming defensive. The goal is always to produce the best possible final piece of content.

Most importantly, your existing portfolio should demonstrate these capabilities.

Experience & Skills
The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated professional video editing experience.
  • A strong portfolio of short-form social media content.
  • Strong capability editing Reels, Shorts and vertical video.
  • Excellent understanding of pacing and viewer retention.
  • Strong captioning and typography skills.
  • Excellent sound-design capability.
  • Experience incorporating animations, graphics, B-roll and visual layers.
  • Ability to creatively manipulate backgrounds and scenes.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to follow brand guidelines and creative direction.
  • Ability to work independently and meet agreed deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • An understanding of current social media content and editing styles.
  • Cinematic editing capability is highly regarded.
  • AI image/video generation experience is highly regarded.

Personal Attributes

  • Highly creative with a strong visual eye
  • Takes pride in producing exceptional work
  • Reliable and accountable
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Open to feedback and revisions
  • Proactive and takes initiative
  • Curious and willing to experiment
  • Keeps up with emerging editing styles and technology
  • Understands the difference between adding effects and actually improving a video
  • Able to work independently without needing constant supervision

What's on Offer

  • $10 AUD per hour.
  • Initially freelance/gig-based work.
  • Fully remote position.
  • Increasing volume of work available for a high-performing editor.
  • Potential pathway from gig-based work into a regular part-time position.
  • Potential longer-term pathway into a full-time position as content requirements grow.
  • Opportunity to work across personal-brand, leadership, business and marketing content.
  • Opportunity to experiment with modern video-editing and AI content-generation technologies.
  • Opportunity to have a meaningful creative influence over how the brands' content evolves.

For the right person, we are interested in building a long-term working relationship, not simply finding someone to complete one or two videos.

How to Apply – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Do not submit a generic application.
Before applying, you must first watch the reference videos provided earlier in this advertisement and objectively assess whether you have the editing capability required.

If you believe you do, please submit:
1. Your CV or Resume.
2. Your video editing portfolio. Please provide direct links to examples of videos you have personally edited. We particularly want to see work that demonstrates short-form social media editing, captions, sound design, animations, visual layering, B-roll, motion graphics and creative editing.
3. A short introduction video. Please record a short video introducing yourself, telling us about your video editing experience and explain
