About the Role

Research, Clean & Enrich Lead - B2B / M&A Data Operations

Full-time | Remote | Philippines
$1,000–$1,200 USD/month to start

We’re a U.S.-based M&A firm.

Private equity firms and other buyers hire us to find companies they may want to acquire.

A buyer might ask us to find commercial HVAC companies, electrical testing businesses, ITAD/electronics recycling companies, control systems integrators, or another very specific type of company.

They give us a detailed mandate: what the company needs to do, geography, approximate size, end markets, what qualifies, what doesn’t, etc.

We need someone to own the Research → Clean → Enrich side of that process.

This is not an appointment-setting job and it’s not a basic “export a list from Apollo” role.

The job is to take a mandate and figure out the best way to build a large, accurate list of companies that actually fit it, then identify the right owner/founder/CEO and enrich the contact data.

The two things we care about most are:

1. Lead quality
Are these actually the right companies, the right size, and the right people?

2. Cost per qualified lead
Can we produce high-quality data without wasting money on unnecessary tools, credits, or manual work?

For each company, we generally want:

Company name

Website

Company LinkedIn

Short description of what they do

Approximate size / size proxy

Owner / Founder / CEO

Personal LinkedIn

Verified email

Mobile number when possible

A big part of the role is figuring out where the companies actually are.

Apollo is useful, but we don’t want someone who only knows Apollo.

Depending on the industry, the best sources might be:

Industry associations

Certification or accreditation directories

Trade organizations

Member directories

Government or licensing databases

Trade show exhibitor lists

Niche databases

Google

LinkedIn

Apollo

Scraped websites/directories

Other industry-specific sources

You should be comfortable combining several sources, cleaning the data, removing duplicates, and building a much more complete company universe.

You’ll also help decide which companies actually fit the mandate.

We use AI heavily, but we do not want someone who blindly runs everything through ChatGPT or Claude and trusts the output.

The right person should understand how to combine:

AI

Automation

Rules

Human review

For example, maybe obvious bad fits can be removed automatically, obvious good fits can pass, and ambiguous companies go into a human-review bucket.

You should also be comfortable with company sizing.

Most of the companies we research are private, so revenue and EBITDA databases are often wrong. We may use things like LinkedIn employee count, locations, industry-specific thresholds, and other public signals instead.

On the enrichment side, you should understand waterfalls.

We don’t want to run every contact through the most expensive provider first.

You should understand how to test different providers, send failures to the next provider, verify the results, and figure out the best mix of cost and coverage.

You do not need to know every tool below, but experience with several of these is a strong plus:

Clay

Apollo

LinkedIn Sales Navigator

Prospeo

LeadMagic

BetterContact

Datagma

Hunter

RocketReach

ContactOut

Apify

ChatGPT

Claude

Perplexity

Google Sheets / Excel

Zapier

Make

n8n

APIs / Webhooks

Basic Python or JavaScript is a bonus.

What matters more than knowing a specific tool is understanding how the whole system works.

We’re looking for someone who:

Has built B2B research / list-building / enrichment workflows before

Understands enrichment waterfalls

Knows how to research obscure industries

Is comfortable with AI and automation

Understands basic APIs and data workflows

Can clean and deduplicate messy data

Thinks about cost, not just output volume

Can work independently

Communicates clearly

Makes recommendations instead of waiting for step-by-step instructions

Is willing to replace our current tools/process if there is a better way

Initial volume will be around 5,000 qualified leads per month, and that will grow.

We pay separately for approved software, data providers, enrichment credits, etc.

There is room for more responsibility and higher compensation if you build this well and become the person who owns the function.

To apply

Please don’t send a generic cover letter.

Start your application with the word WATERFALL and answer these questions:

1. We need 5,000 U.S. acquisition targets per month across several niche industries. Apollo only gives us part of the market. Where else would you look for companies?

2. We collect 8,000 companies from several sources, but only 3,000 actually fit the buyer’s criteria. How would you build a process to qualify them using AI, automation, rules, and human review?

3. How would you clean and deduplicate company data collected from multiple sources?

4. Design a basic enrichment waterfall for 5,000 U.S. contacts where we need LinkedIn, verified email , and preferably mobile numbers. Which tools would you consider and why?

5. How would you calculate the total cost per qualified usable lead?

6. Tell us about the most sophisticated research / list-building / enrichment system you have personally built. Include the volume, tools, what you built yourself, what you automated, and anything you changed or improved.

7. What monthly salary are you looking for?

Research finalists will receive a paid project.
