Senior Freight Forwarding & Intermodal Container Operations Specialist
Confidential employer
We are looking for an experienced Freight Forwarding & Intermodal Container Operations Specialist with hands-on experience in the Canadian and U.S. and Worldwide logistics markets.
The ideal candidate will have practical knowledge of freight forwarding, container drayage, intermodal transportation, and agricultural or bulk commodity operations. We are particularly interested in someone who can manage real shipments, explain operational processes, and help us build and improve our logistics operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate freight forwarding operations involving Canada and the United States.
- Manage ocean freight shipments, including FCL/LCL, import/export, booking, documentation, and tracking.
- Coordinate intermodal container transportation involving rail terminals, ports, container yards, and drayage carriers.
- Handle container pickup and delivery appointments, including CN and CPKC rail terminal operations.
- Coordinate agricultural commodity and bulk freight movements, including grain and other containerized agricultural products.
- Understand and coordinate drayage, transloading, container stuffing and stripping, and loading/unloading operations.
- Coordinate dry van, reefer, and other freight movements as required.
- Prepare freight quotations, calculate carrier costs, and understand shipment profitability.
- Communicate with trucking companies, freight forwarders, rail operators, customs brokers, warehouses, and customers.
- Track shipments, resolve delays, and manage daily operational issues.
- Create standard operating procedures and document logistics workflows.
- Share operational expertise and help train and guide our team on North American freight forwarding and container operations.
Requirements:
- 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in freight forwarding, intermodal transportation, container operations, or a related logistics field.
- Direct experience with Canadian and/or U.S. freight operations. Experience with both markets is a strong advantage.
- Practical knowledge of container drayage, rail ramps, ports, and intermodal operations.
- Experience with freight documentation, shipment tracking, rate quotations, and carrier coordination.
- Agricultural, grain, bulk freight, or transloading experience is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with CN, CPKC, North American ports, or container terminals is an advantage.
- Experience using logistics software such as CargoWise, Magaya, Descartes, or similar systems.
- Strong English communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and communicate with North American businesses.
Who We Are Looking For:
We need someone with real operational experience, not just general logistics or data-entry knowledge. You should be able to explain how a shipment moves from booking and pickup through rail or ocean transportation, customs coordination, transloading when required, and final delivery.
The ideal candidate will also be willing to share knowledge, explain processes, and help establish a reliable and scalable logistics operation.
How to Apply:
Please include your resume and briefly describe:
1. Your experience with Canadian and U.S. freight forwarding and container operations.
2. The types of commodities and shipments you have handled, especially agricultural or bulk freight.
3. Your experience with intermodal drayage, rail terminals, container loading/unloading, and transloading.
4. The logistics software and systems you have used.
5. Your expected monthly salary and availability.
