Experienced Proofreader / Copyeditor for 7 Nonfiction Books (2-Month Contract)

Compensation: $700 USD per month (fixed rate; $1,400 total for the 2-month contract).

I am an author preparing 7 nonfiction books for publication on Amazon, and I need an experienced editor as the final human review gate before they go live.

Each book first goes through AI-assisted review passes; your job is the last human read — the person who catches what the machines missed. Manuscripts will be delivered in batches as they complete our internal review, so you will always have work queued.

Total volume is approximately 365,000 words across 7 books (business/pricing, marketing, self-help, and relationships). The manuscripts are in Microsoft Word (6 books) and EPUB (1 book).

Responsibilities

• Proofread and copyedit all 7 manuscripts: grammar, spelling, punctuation, consistency, clarity, and formatting.
• Work in Microsoft Word with Track Changes so every edit is visible.
• Keep a simple style/consistency log across the books (spelling conventions, terminology, names).
• Flag — don't rewrite — structural problems, factual claims that need verification, and unclear passages.
• Deliver edited manuscripts on schedule: roughly 9,000 words per day pace, with time for a second look at each book.

Requirements

• Excellent written English (near-native or native level).
• Proven book proofreading/editing experience — this is essential. Share samples or references of published books you have worked on.
• Careful and methodical: this is the final gate before publication, not a rush job.
• Fast, accurate, dependable; comfortable with a daily word-count target.
• Available full-time for two months, starting as soon as possible.
• Strict confidentiality: all manuscripts are unpublished (NDA required).
