Job overview
JB’s Contracting & Maintenance / JB’s Home Services is a veteran-owned construction and home-services business based in Northwest Florida. We serve homeowners through construction, remodeling, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and related services.
We are looking for an experienced bookkeeper/accounting specialist to take ownership of our day-to-day bookkeeping and financial reporting.
This is not an entry-level data-entry position. We need someone who understands the numbers, identifies missing information, follows up professionally, and maintains accurate records without the owner having to manage every transaction.
What you will own
Daily bookkeeping and documentation. Maintain accurate QuickBooks records; collect and organize receipts, bills, and supporting documents; match transactions; identify duplicates; and resolve missing information with the appropriate team member.
Banking, credit cards, and account reconciliations. Reconcile bank and credit-card accounts, investigate discrepancies, maintain loan and liability schedules, and document unresolved items rather than guessing or making unsupported adjustments.
Accounts payable and receivable. Maintain vendor-bill and customer-balance reports, prepare payment-approval lists, coordinate routine invoice follow-ups, and flag overdue balances or billing discrepancies.
Job costs and department reporting. Track labor, materials, subcontractors, and other direct costs by job and department. Coordinate with our operating systems and team so management can compare estimated costs with actual costs.
Payroll and commission preparation. Collect approved time and supporting information, prepare payroll inputs for management and our payroll provider, reconcile payroll postings, and prepare commission worksheets using our approved compensation plans.
Monthly reporting. Complete an agreed month-end checklist and prepare profit-and-loss, balance-sheet, receivables, payables, and job-profitability reports. Provide a brief explanation of unusual changes, missing information, and items requiring management attention.
Required qualifications
At least three years of hands-on bookkeeping experience, including experience supporting U.S. businesses. Strong QuickBooks and spreadsheet skills are required. Please specify your experience with QuickBooks Online, Desktop, or both.
You must be comfortable with full account reconciliations, the relationship between the balance sheet and profit-and-loss statement, and the difference between gross margin and markup.
Construction, contracting, or home-services experience is strongly preferred. Job-costing experience is particularly important. An accounting degree or professional accounting credential is welcome, but demonstrated competence matters more than a title alone.
Working expectations
You will prepare and reconcile financial information, but you will not independently authorize payments, change vendor banking details, approve refunds, or make tax-policy decisions.
We value accuracy, confidentiality, clear communication, and early reporting of problems. We would rather receive a thoughtful question than an unsupported assumption.
How to apply
Apply through OnlineJobs.ph with the subject “JB’s Accounting — Your Name.”
Include your résumé, expected monthly compensation, availability, and short answers to these questions:
1. What bookkeeping work have you personally handled for U.S. contractors or home-service companies?
2. Describe your month-end closing process.
3. How would you record a payment from a checking account to a business credit card without duplicating expenses?
4. What would you do when a transaction is missing a receipt or job assignment?
Shortlisted applicants will complete a paid practical assessment using sample data, followed by an interview.
Suggested skill tags: Bookkeeping, QuickBooks, Accounting.
