About the Role

Job Overview

Australian CFO advisory firm (name disclosed to shortlisted candidates) that is building AI systems for two things: a pricing and estimating engine for a commercial construction client, and an AI finance team that runs bookkeeping review, month-end packs and workpapers across our clients' Xero files.

We supply the domain — the supplier lists, the quoting SOPs, the accounting standards, the review rules. You supply the engineering. You will work directly with the Principal (a CPA/CGMA who uses Claude Code daily) and own the build end-to-end: architecture, agents, integrations, testing, documentation. This is not an n8n-only role. If you have not shipped Claude Code agents with subagents, skill files and MCP servers in production, this is not the role for you.

Our working day is UTC+8 — the same time zone as the Philippines.

What You Will Build

Project 1 — Pricing & estimating engine: An agent system that takes a tender scope and drawings, issues RFQs to our supplier and subcontractor lists by email , collects and normalises the quotes into a comparison table, builds a cost plan from the pricing sheet, raises quotes and purchase orders in Xero, and reports budget vs committed cost per job. The supplier sheet, the quoting SOP and the Xero file already exist.

Project 2 — AI finance team: Claude Code agents that review client bookkeeping in Xero (coding, reconciliations, GST), assemble month-end management packs to our Excel template, create referenced workpapers from source documents, and draft variance commentary — each with a human review gate before anything is sent.

Across both: MCP servers connecting Claude to Xero, Microsoft 365 (Outlook, SharePoint, Excel) and our data stores; evaluation harnesses so we know when an agent's output is wrong; overnight unattended runs; written documentation good enough that the firm is not dependent on you to operate what you built.

Requirements
Shipped Claude Code work in production: subagents, CLAUDE.md / skill files, hooks, multi-agent orchestration. You can show it.
Built or integrated at least one MCP server in production.
Python or TypeScript to a professional standard; Git/GitHub daily.
API integration with an accounting, CRM or ERP platform (Xero API is a strong plus); OAuth, webhooks, JSON, rate limits.
Testing and evaluation discipline: you can explain how you measure whether an agent's output is correct, not just whether it ran.
Excellent written English — you will document every system and write for a non-technical reader.
Reliable internet with backup power; available during business hours (Mon–Fri, UTC+8).
Nice to Have
n8n, Make or Zapier for glue work; Supabase/Postgres; Microsoft Graph API
Experience with structured-output extraction from PDFs (drawings, quotes, invoices)
Any exposure to accounting, bookkeeping or construction estimating
Open-model experience (Llama, Qwen, Mistral) for cost-sensitive workloads
How We Work

Weekly sprint with written goals; a working demo every Friday. Everything in Git with a README. Secrets in a vault, never in chat. All IP is assigned to the firm under a contractor agreement and NDA. Shortlisted candidates complete a paid four-hour test build; the successful candidate starts on a paid 30-day trial against Project 1 milestones.
