Short-Form Reel Editor - Fluent English + Strong Storytelling Required
Confidential employer
We are looking for a reliable, fast short-form video editor to edit talking-head educational/entertainment content for personalities and brands.
This is NOT a basic “add captions and transitions” editing position.
The most important part of this job is your ability to listen to raw English-speaking footage, understand exactly what the speaker is trying to communicate, and restructure the footage into a clean, engaging 30–120 second video without destroying the natural flow of the conversation.
Raw videos will typically be 3–10 minutes long and need to be condensed into short-form Reels while retaining the strongest and most important information.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
You will need to:
Watch and fully understand raw talking-head footage in English
Identify the hook, key points, payoff, and unnecessary information
Turn 3–5 minutes of raw footage into a 30–90 second cohesive video
Remove pauses, filler words, repetitions, stutters, tangents, and weak sentences
Rearrange clips when necessary so the speaker's thoughts make logical sense
Maintain natural conversational flow after cuts
Know what information can be removed without changing the meaning
Create strong pacing without making the video feel unnaturally over-edited
Add clean titles/captions
Use punch-ins, crop changes, B-roll or visual changes when appropriate to maintain attention
Edit primarily in CapCut
Export high-quality 4K video
Consistently deliver videos within 24 hours or less
NON-NEGOTIABLE REQUIREMENTS
1. You must be fluent in English.
You need to understand spoken English at a level where you can recognize:
Context
Humor
Tone
Sentence structure
Repetition
Filler
Important vs. unimportant information
When two separated sentences can or cannot naturally be connected
If you rely heavily on transcripts or translation software to understand what the speaker is saying, this position is not a good fit.
2. You must understand STORY and INFORMATION FLOW.
We frequently receive edits where individual cuts are technically correct, but the final video no longer makes sense because the editor removed context or connected sentences that do not belong together.
You should be able to take messy or unscripted speech and turn it into:
HOOK → CONTEXT → MAIN POINT → SUPPORTING INFORMATION → PAYOFF
The viewer should never feel like pieces of the conversation are missing.
3. You must be FAST in CapCut.
This is a high-volume position.
You should already be comfortable editing talking-head content quickly and should not need several hours to make simple cuts, captions, punch-ins, and formatting changes.
4. You must be reliable.
We are looking for someone we can send videos to consistently without needing to:
Repeatedly follow up
Explain the same editing rules
Fix basic English mistakes
Completely restructure the video ourselves
Wait several days for simple edits
You must be able to learn our editing style and become increasingly independent.
IMPORTANT — APPLICATION TEST
Do NOT send only a generic application.
Trial Required
Qualified applicants will receive a short editing test/tutorial using the same raw footage.
This will allow us to compare applicants based on the exact same material.
We will primarily evaluate:
English comprehension
What you chose to remove
What you chose to keep
Story structure
Conversational flow
Pacing
Editing speed
Ability to follow instructions
There is ongoing work available for editors who perform well.
