About the Role

LONG-TERM • FULL-TIME • DIRECT HIRE • $7–$10/HOUR

Do you know medical billing inside and out, and enjoy getting a denied claim paid? Help a growing podiatry practice keep its billing clean, its patients informed and its phones covered.

ABOUT US
Balance Foot & Ankle is a doctor-owned podiatry (foot and ankle) practice in Michigan, USA, with 3 doctors and 2 offices in Howell and Bloomfield Hills, and we're growing. Our founder, Dr. Tom Biernacki, is a double board-certified foot and ankle surgeon who also teaches foot health on YouTube. We're building a small, reliable virtual team and adding a Podiatry Billing Manager for the long term.

YOUR ROLE
You'll own our day-to-day billing in athenaOne, from clean claims to paid claims, and be the go-to person for patients' billing questions. You'll also back up our Medical Front Desk VA on patient calls, so our phones are always covered.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Review charges and clear claim holds so clean claims go out quickly
  • Work rejections and denials: find the root cause, then correct, resubmit or appeal before the deadline
  • Follow up on unpaid claims (A/R) by payer and age, using Availity, payer portals and phone
  • Verify eligibility and help with referrals and prior authorizations when needed
  • Answer patient billing questions about statements and balances, set up payment plans within our policy, and help patients pay online
  • Back up the front desk on patient calls and texts in Quo during busy times, breaks and days off
  • Spot patterns (a code, a modifier or a payer that keeps denying) and suggest fixes so they stop happening
  • Send Dr. Tom a short weekly billing update by email : what got paid, what's stuck and what needs his decision

WHAT GREAT LOOKS LIKE

  • Claims go out clean and quickly, and nothing sits on hold
  • Every denial is worked, corrected or appealed before its deadline
  • Old unpaid claims shrink month over month
  • Patients get clear, kind answers about their bills
  • The phones are covered whenever the front desk is busy or away

TOOLS (we set up your accounts and train you)

  • athenaOne (athenahealth): claims, worklists, denials, A/R and patient balances
  • Availity and payer portals
  • Quo: patient calls and texts
  • Google Workspace: practice email , Drive, Docs and Sheets
  • Hubstaff: our virtual team works through Hubstaff for time tracking

HOW TO APPLY (please follow every step)
1. Start your application with the words "Podiatry Billing" so we know you read this post.
2. Record a 1–2 minute voice message (Vocaroo, Loom or Google Drive link). Imagine a patient calls upset about a bill they didn't expect. Walk us through the call: what you say and how you resolve it.
3. List every EHR and billing system you've used and for how long. Tell us specifically what you've done in athenaOne.
4. Describe one denied claim you got paid: why it was denied and what you did (please leave out patient names and details).
