About the Role

Hello! We are a growing UK women’s ecommerce fashion brand looking for an experienced Social Media Manager to take day-to-day ownership of our organic social media.

This is a hands-on ecommerce role for someone who has already managed social media for a real ecommerce, DTC or product-based business.

We already have product photography, lifestyle photography, UGC, creator content and finished video available. Your job is to take those assets and turn them into strong, finished social content: choose what to use, d ---------- how to use it, write the copy, create simple supporting graphics where needed, schedule/publish the content and keep our social channels active, current and commercially useful.

You will also support the final preparation of paid-social ads such as writing or adapting copy and, where experienced, uploading approved ads into Meta Ads Manager ready for review.

We are hiring for strong ecommerce social-media experience, judgement, copywriting and execution. This is a long-term role of approximately 35 hours per week and should be your primary working commitment.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN
1. Organic Social Media

  • You will take day-to-day ownership of our social content across Facebook , Instagram and TikTok.
  • Own and maintain the social-media content calendar
  • Choose the strongest content from our existing photography, UGC, creator content and finished video
  • Plan what should be posted and when
  • Write captions, hooks, promotional copy and calls to action
  • Schedule and publish content consistently
  • Create Stories, carousels, product posts, promotional posts, customer review content, polls, reposts and other native social content
  • Adapt content appropriately for each platform rather than simply posting exactly the same thing everywhere
  • Repurpose strong existing assets in new ways without making the feed feel repetitive
  • Keep channels current, active and on-brand
  • Respond naturally to comments and community activity
  • Escalate order, refund or customer-service issues to the appropriate team
  • Identify posts and formats that perform particularly well and share useful learnings with the founders
  • We want someone who can take an asset from folder to finished social post, rather than waiting for completed posts to be handed to them.

2. Canva & Simple Content Adaptation
You should be confident using Canva or similar tools for high-quality everyday social execution, including:

  • Stories and carousels
  • Adding offers, reviews, prices, headlines or calls to action to existing photography
  • Adapting existing templates or working from an example image
  • Resizing and cropping content correctly for different placements
  • Creating simple promotional or product-led social graphics
  • Maintaining consistent branding and good visual presentation

3. Social Content Planning & Research
We want someone proactive who can take campaign priorities, seasonal launches and existing content ideas and turn them into a strong, well-planned social calendar while also contributing useful ideas of their own.

  • Research strong social content from ecommerce, fashion and consumer brands
  • Monitor Instagram, TikTok, Facebook , Pinterest and relevant trends
  • Identify useful hooks, formats, content ideas and approaches we could adapt
  • Explain why an idea could work for our brand rather than simply saving examples
  • Identify gaps in our existing content, for example products lacking suitable lifestyle photography, UGC, reviews or video
  • Help us make better use of the large amount of content we already have
  • Keep launches, promotions and key dates planned ahead

4. Paid Social Execution Support
This is a supporting and executional responsibility only. You will not be responsible for paid-media strategy, campaign budgets or overall Meta performance.

  • Take approved photography, UGC or finished video and prepare it for paid-social use
  • Write or adapt primary text, headlines, calls to action and promotional wording
  • Ensure the correct creative, offer, URL and CTA are being used
  • Where experienced, upload approved ads into Meta Ads Manager using supplied structures and naming conventions
  • Prepare ads ready for founder/media-buyer review before launch where required
  • Spot strong organic posts, UGC or creator content that may be worth testing as paid advertising
  • Previous Meta Ads Manager uploading experience is strongly preferred but not essential if you have excellent ecommerce social experience and are comfortable learning the executional process.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE
Please only apply if you meet the following requirements:

  • Previous professional experience personally managing day-to-day social media for a real ecommerce, DTC or product-based business
  • Experience managing Facebook and Instagram for a brand
  • Evidence of real ecommerce accounts and content you have personally worked on
  • Experience planning posts, choosing assets, writing captions, scheduling/publishing and managing ongoing social activity
  • Experience taking supplied photography, UGC or video and turning it into finished social content
  • Strong written English and the ability to write natural, engaging copy
  • Good visual judgement and the ability to recognise which assets are strongest
  • Comfortable using Canva for social-media content
  • Good understanding of how social supports ecommerce launches, promotions, product discovery and sales
  • Strong organisation across content calendars, assets and deadlines
  • Able to work independently, make sensible day-to-day decisions and bring ideas without constant supervision
  • Able to commit approximately 35 hours per week as your primary working role

STRONGLY PREFERRED

  • Fashion, apparel, activewear, beauty, accessories or other visually led ecommerce experience
  • Experience creating content for a UK, US or Australian audience
  • Experience writing paid-social primary text, headlines and CTAs
  • Basic Shopify familiarity
  • Meta Ad Library or creative-research experience
  • Basic understanding of ecommerce/social metrics such as engagement, reach, CTR, CPA, CVR and ROAS

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF:

  • Your social-media experience is mainly real estate, coaches, personal brands, restaurants or other service businesses and you have not also managed ecommerce/product brands
  • Most of your portfolio consists of AI-generated graphics, fictional brands, concept campaigns or mock work
  • You have never personally managed the day-to-day social media of a real ecommerce or product business
  • You are looking to move into ecommerce for the first time
  • You primarily specialise in photography or filming content
  • You are looking to combine this role with another full-time position
  • We are completely comfortable with sensible use of AI as a working tool, but AI-generated imagery or AI-created portfolio work will not be accepted as evidence of ecommerce social media experience.

THE PERSON WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • You are someone who enjoys actually running social media, not simply designing graphics for it.
  • You can look through a folder containing 30 photographs and quickly identify the strongest few.
  • You can take a good product photograph, piece of UGC or finished video and know how to package it differently for Facebook , Instagram, TikTok or Pinterest.
  • You can write a caption that sounds natural rather than generic or obviously AI-generated.
  • You notice when a promotion is approaching, content is running low or an important product has not been featured recently.
  • You care about creative that gets attention, engagement, clicks and sales, not simply content that looks pretty.
  • And importantly, you understand the pace and commercial priorities of an ecommerce business.

HOW TO APPLY
Please include:
1. Your CV (Please clearly highlight the ecommerce, DTC or product-based brands you have worked with).

2. Real social accounts you have managed
Send links to 1–2 real ecommerce/product brand social-media accounts you have personally worked on. For each account, tell us:

  • How long you worked on it
  • Exactly what you personally handled
  • Which platforms you managed
  • Any success stories using actual numbers (eg. change in engagement / follower count / etc)

3. Show us three posts you personally worked on
Choose three real examples and explain what you did for each.

We also recommend sending a short Loom video, ideally 2–3 minutes maximum, introducing yourself and briefly talking us through one real ecommerce account you have managed. This is a great way to stand out from other applicants.
Please include the word “alpaca” somewhere in your application so we know you have read the full job description.

HIRING PROCESS
Stage 1: CV, real-account examples and application review
Stage 2: Short practical assessment using photography, UGC and finished content supplied by us
Stage 3: Video interview
Final stage: Short paid trial before continuing long term if we are all happy

For the practical assessment, candidates will work with real supplied assets. We are not looking for AI-generated imagery or stock photography.
