Graphic Designer (Apparel) + Shopify Store Assistant
Confidential employer
Probation of 1 to 3 months at $500/month base, then a raise based on performance. Hours: 40 hrs/week, with some flexibility on your schedule
About us
XMartial is a combat sports apparel brand (Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, Muay Thai). We have served over 100,000 customers in 50+ countries with distinctive designs and high-quality gear. We move fast, we ship often, and our designs are the reason people buy from us instead of everyone else.
What this role is
You design our apparel. Rashguards, shorts, spats, gis, tees: you create the vector artwork, build the print files, and produce the mockups that go live on the store and into our ads.
Design is the core of the job and where most of your week goes. The rest of your time you work as a general store assistant, supporting whatever the store needs that week: uploading and organizing products in Shopify, resizing and preparing images, editing banners, fixing catalog issues, and other hands-on tasks.
This is an independent role. We give you the brief, the references, and the print specs, and trust you to deliver finished, production-ready work without being chased.
What you will do
Apparel design (the main job) + Shopify Store Assistant
Create original vector artwork for all-over-print combat sports apparel: rashguards, shorts, spats, gis, tees.
Build print-ready files that match manufacturer specs: correct dimensions, resolution, bleed, panel placement, and seam alignment across sizes.
Develop colorways and variations of existing designs, and keep whole collections visually consistent.
Work from a brief and from our existing style, while bringing your own ideas for designs you think will sell.
Mockups and visuals
Produce clean, realistic product mockups for the store, ads, and social.
Retouch and edit imagery in Photoshop so the catalog looks consistent and premium.
Create supporting graphics when needed: collection banners, promo images, product-page graphics.
General store assistant work
Upload and organize products in Shopify: images, variants, collections, tidying up messy or duplicate listings.
Prepare and resize assets for different placements across the store and ad channels.
Handle small ongoing tasks that keep the store accurate and up to date.
What we are looking for
Must have
Strong vector design skills in Adobe Illustrator. This is the core skill and we will test it.
Real experience designing apparel for print, ideally all-over sublimation. You understand how a flat file becomes a finished garment.
Photoshop skills for mockups and image retouching.
A portfolio of apparel or graphic design work. Required, no exceptions.
A strong eye for bold, modern design that fits combat sports culture.
Precision. Print files that are off by a few millimeters cost us real money, so details matter.
Willingness to do the non-design store tasks as well. This is not a pure design role.
Good written English and reliable communication.
Nice to have
You train BJJ, MMA, Muay Thai, or wrestling, or you genuinely follow the sport.
Shopify experience.
Comfort using AI tools (image generation, upscaling, background removal) to work faster.
Figma, or experience building tech packs and working directly with manufacturers.
How we work
Before each project we agree on the brief, the references, and the specs, so nothing is fuzzy. We move fast and ship often. Strong applicants get a short paid trial task (one rashguard design plus a mockup) before we finalize.
How to apply
All applications go through our form. We do not accept applications by email or DM.
Apply here: ----------
Have your portfolio ready, with at least a few apparel or print designs in it. To show you read this far, the form asks for a keyword: it is GRIP. Applications with the wrong or missing keyword are not reviewed.
