Athenahealth Billing & Posting Specialist / Medical Virtual Assistant

We are a US-based musculoskeletal and pain management practice looking for an experienced medical billing VA with hands-on athenahealth experience. This is a long-term, full-time role supporting our billing and back-office operations. Read the whole posting.

PREFERENCE to ATHENAHEALTH EXPERIENCED but others may apply with sufficient alternate EHRs.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Billing & Posting

• Post EOBs and ERAs into athenahealth accurately and on time
• Work claim holds, denials, and unpostables; follow up on outstanding balances
• Generate and run reports in athenahealth (A/R, aging, collections, charge/payment reconciliation) and flag trends
• Verify charge entry and help keep coding and documentation clean

Back Office / Clinical Support

• Pull and file lab results into the chart
• Schedule and reschedule patients; run appointment reminders and confirmations
• Patient data entry, chart prep, and document indexing
• Inbox, fax, and task queue management
• General VA and administrative support as needed
• Experience with prior authorizations and insurance verification
• Experience working with a US multi-location practice

REQUIREMENTS

• 2+ years of US medical billing experience, with direct athenahealth (athenaOne / athenaCollector) experience
• Solid understanding of EOBs, ERAs, adjustments, patient responsibility, and payer denial reasons
• Familiar with CPT, ICD-10, and modifiers (pain management / PM&R / ortho experience is a big plus)
• Excellent written and spoken English; comfortable on calls with US staff
• HIPAA-trained and serious about patient privacy
• Reliable computer (i5/Ryzen 5 or better, 8GB+ RAM), dual monitors preferred, stable internet 25 Mbps+, backup power and backup internet a big plus
• Available during US Eastern business hours
• Detail-oriented, self-directed, and consistent - we value accuracy over speed
