YouTube Video Editor – Long-Form + Shorts | Part-Time
Confidential employer
Video Editor, YouTube Long Form and Short Form
About Years Younger
Years Younger is a movement, mobility, strength, and performance longevity brand helping active adults stay strong, mobile, capable, confident, and adventurous.
We are actively growing our YouTube channel and are looking for a skilled, experienced video editor who can turn educational talking head, movement, breathwork, mobility, and wellness content into polished videos that hold attention and feel professional.
This is primarily a video editing position.
I am not looking for someone who simply knows how to cut clips together. I am looking for an editor with strong visual judgment who understands pacing, storytelling, B roll, music, hooks, viewer retention, and, equally important, when not to add unnecessary effects.
What You Will Be Editing
You may work on:
- Long form YouTube videos, including educational and talking head content
- Movement, mobility, exercise, and breathwork videos
- YouTube Shorts and vertical social videos
- Strong opening sequences and hooks
- B roll sequences that visually reinforce what the speaker is teaching
- Captions, text, graphics, and motion elements when appropriate
- Music and sound that support the tone without overpowering the content
- Long form content repurposed into high quality short form clips
You will also be responsible for reviewing your own work before submitting it and correcting obvious issues with cuts, audio, text, spelling, graphics, pacing, cropping, and exports.
Quality control is part of the editing job, not something that should happen only after revisions are requested.
The Editor We Are Looking For
You should have:
- At least 4 years of professional video editing experience
- A strong portfolio demonstrating long form editing ability
- Experience editing talking head, educational, podcast, coaching, wellness, fitness, or similar content
- Strong B roll selection and placement skills
- An understanding of pacing and viewer retention
- The ability to create engaging intros without making the entire video feel overproduced
- Good judgment around music, graphics, captions, transitions, and effects
- The ability to follow an established brand while bringing your own creative ideas
- Strong attention to detail and quality control
- The ability to accept feedback and make revisions accurately
- Excellent communication and deadline management
- The ability to work independently without requiring constant direction
Being able to make a video more interesting without making it unnecessarily busy is particularly important for this role.
Editing Software
You should be highly proficient with at least one professional editing platform, preferably:
Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or CapCut.
Experience with After Effects or motion graphics is a plus.
CapCut experience is useful because we also produce short form content.
Descript experience is helpful but not required. A strong editor can be trained on the portions of Descript we use.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a remote, ongoing part time position.
*Starting pay: $6 USD per hour
*Expected workload: approximately 12 to 15 hours per week
Hours may grow over time as the YouTube channel and business expand.
You do not need to work entirely during U.S. business hours, but you must have reliable communication overlap during Pacific Time working hours.
My normal working day ends at approximately *4:00 PM Pacific Time (Los Angeles)*, so questions, problems, file access issues, and deadline concerns need to be communicated early rather than late in the evening.
Communication Expectations
Communication is an important part of this position and will also be evaluated during the hiring process and paid test.
During your agreed working days, you are expected to acknowledge direct work messages, questions, file access issues, revision requests, or deadline related communication within 8 hours.
You do not need to have the complete answer within 8 hours. A short acknowledgment is sufficient, for example:
“Received, thank you. I’ll review this and update you by 2:00 PM PT.”
“I received the files and everything is opening correctly. I’ll follow up after I review them.”
“I saw your message. I need some time to investigate this and will update you during my next work block.”
If a problem could affect a deadline, you are expected to communicate it as soon as you become aware of it rather than waiting until the deadline approaches.
Last minute extension requests or discovering at the end of a project that an assignment cannot be completed will not be a good fit for this role.
How to Apply
Please include all of the following in your application:
1. Your video editing portfolio.
2. Links to two of your strongest long form edits.
3. A link to one of your strongest short form edits.
4. For each example, briefly explain exactly what you personally did on the video, such as first pass editing, B roll, graphics, animation, color, audio, captions, thumbnail, or complete edit.
5. Choose one of the long form videos you submitted and give me one specific timestamp where you made an editing decision you are particularly proud of. Tell me what you did there and why you made that choice.
6. Tell me how many years you have worked professionally as a video editor.
7. Tell me which editing programs you currently use.
8. Tell me your current or normal hourly rate.
9. Tell me whether you currently have another job or regular clients and approximately how many hours per week you are committed elsewhere.
10. Give me your normal weekly working schedule, including your working days and hours, shown in both your local time and Pacific Time.
11. Specifically tell me what hours you would normally be available for communication between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Pacific Time.
12. Briefly explain how you approach B roll selection and pacing in a talking head YouTube video.
13. Briefly explain how you d ---------- when to use music, graphics, text, transitions, and effects versus when to keep an edit simple.
Important Application Instructions
Please read these carefully.
Start with the number 12. Subtract 9, then add 2.
Use the final answer as the number of Apply Points you use when submitting your application.
Do not write the answer to the math problem here simply because it appears in the job posting. Calculate it yourself and use that number of Apply Points.
Also, somewhere in your response to the question about B roll selection and pacing, naturally use the word younger.
Please do not simply write “younger” by itself or add it as an unrelated sentence. It should be used naturally within your response.
Applications that do not follow these instructions may not be reviewed.
Strong candidates will be invited to complete a paid editing test before a final hiring decision is made.
Thank you.
