YouTube Video Editor — B-Roll, Graphics & Visual Storytelling
Real Estate & Sacramento Lifestyle | Part-Time | Long-Term
Hi! I'm a real estate professional building a YouTube channel focused on Sacramento-area neighborhoods, lifestyle, relocation, and real estate.
I'm looking for a talented YouTube video editor who is especially strong at visual storytelling, B-roll, graphics, maps, photos and viewer retention.
IMPORTANT: My Footage Will Already Be Pre-Edited
I will provide you with a pre-edited video each week.
I will already have:
- Selected the speaking footage I want to use
- Removed mistakes and unwanted sections
- Removed unnecessary pauses
- Established the speaking cadence and pacing
- Put the content in the order I want it presented
You will NOT be responsible for editing down hours of raw talking-head footage or deciding what parts of my presentation to keep.
Your job begins with my pre-edited speaking video.
Your primary responsibility is to take that video and make it visually interesting, polished and engaging to watch.
What You'll Be Editing
I plan to publish approximately one long-form YouTube video per week.
Topics will include:
- Sacramento-area neighborhoods and communities
- Living in Sacramento
- Relocating to the Sacramento area
- Neighborhood and community comparisons
- Real estate education
- Local lifestyle
- Community tours and information
- Talking-head educational videos
My videos are designed to help prospective home buyers learn about the Sacramento area and ultimately generate real estate leads.
Your Primary Job: Visual Storytelling
I don't want someone who simply adds random stock footage every 30 seconds.
I want an editor who listens carefully to what I'm saying and asks:
"What could the viewer SEE right now that would make this more interesting, easier to understand, or more compelling?"
Depending on the content, that could include:
- Relevant B-roll
- Maps and location graphics
- Neighborhood and community imagery
- Photos
- Charts and graphs
- On-screen statistics or key facts
- Text callouts
- Animated titles
- Property or lifestyle imagery
- Screen captures
- Visual comparisons
- Zooms or other subtle movement
- Pattern interrupts
- Music and sound design when appropriate
- Other visual elements that support the story and improve viewer retention
The visuals should support what I'm saying, not distract from it.
I want the finished videos to feel professional and engaging without feeling overly flashy, gimmicky or over-edited.
What I Need From You
You should be able to:
- Understand spoken English extremely well
- Understand the meaning and context of what I'm saying
- Identify opportunities for visual storytelling
- Find appropriate B-roll, photos and other visual assets
- Create attractive maps, graphics, charts and visual comparisons
- Add tasteful on-screen text and callouts
- Understand YouTube viewer retention and visual pacing
- Add appropriate pattern interrupts without overdoing them
- Clean and balance audio if needed
- Perform basic color correction if needed
- Add appropriate music and sound design
- Create clean transitions
- Maintain a consistent visual style from video to video
- Follow instructions and established brand guidelines
- Accept feedback and make revisions
- Meet agreed-upon weekly deadlines
Experience editing real estate, relocation, lifestyle, travel, educational or location-based YouTube content is a major plus.
What I DON'T Need
This is NOT a general Virtual Assistant position.
You will not be responsible for:
- Managing my CRM
- Managing leads
- Managing my email
- Managing my calendar
- Business administration
- Editing hours of raw talking-head footage
You also will not initially need access to my YouTube account, client databases or other business systems.
I will provide the pre-edited video.
Your job is to make it visually excellent.
What I'm Looking For
I care a lot about:
- Excellent visual storytelling
- Strong English comprehension
- Good creative judgment
- Reliability
- Attention to detail
- Good communication
- Understanding YouTube retention
- Ability to research and select relevant visuals
- Ability to follow an established style
- Meeting deadlines
- Being comfortable asking questions when something is unclear
I'm looking for someone I can work with long-term and who can learn the look and feel of my channel over time.
Schedule & Compensation
This is a part-time position for approximately one long-form YouTube video per week.
Because the speaking footage will already be edited, I'm open to either an hourly or per-video rate.
If hourly, my anticipated starting range is approximately $7–$9 USD/hour depending on experience, skill and efficiency.
After we've worked together on several videos and understand the typical workload, I'm open to establishing a consistent per-video rate.
HOW TO APPLY
Please do NOT send me a giant portfolio.
Instead, send me:
1. Your 3 best LONG-FORM YouTube videos that YOU personally edited.
I'm especially interested in examples that demonstrate:
- B-roll
- Visual storytelling
- Maps
- Graphics
- Photos
- Charts or data visualization
- On-screen text
- Pattern interrupts
- Strong visual pacing
Talking-head, educational, lifestyle, travel or real-estate examples are especially helpful.
2. Tell me exactly what you personally did on those three videos.
3. What editing software do you use?
4. What tools do you use to create maps, graphics, animations or other visual elements?
5. Where do you typically source B-roll, photos, music and other assets, and how do you make sure those assets can legally be used in a client's YouTube videos?
6. If I provide a pre-edited 15–20 minute talking-head video with the speaking cuts and pacing already completed, approximately how many hours would you expect to spend adding the visual storytelling and finishing the video?
7. What is your desired hourly rate or per-video rate?
8. Tell me about your experience editing videos for English-speaking creators.
9. Please send me a 60–90 second video introducing yourself in English.
It does NOT need to be professionally edited. I simply want to meet you and hear how you communicate.
Finally, begin your application with the words:
SACRAMENTO EDITOR
Applications that don't include those words will not be considered.
Paid Editing Test
I will select a small number of finalists and give each person the same short piece of my pre-edited footage.
This will be a paid test.
Your assignment will be to add the B-roll, graphics, maps, photos, text, music, sound design and other visual elements you believe will make that section engaging and easy to understand.
I'll provide some examples of the editing style I like, but I also want to see your creative judgment.
I'm looking for the editor who can take what I'm saying and visually tell the story with me — not simply add effects for the sake of adding effects.
If we're a great fit, I'd love for this to become a long-term working relationship.
