About the Role

We're looking for an experienced bookkeeper or staff accountant to join a small accounting practice and take ownership of day-to-day client bookkeeping work. This is a real accounting role — not a general VA position — and we're looking for someone who can work independently, apply solid accounting judgment, and deliver clean, well-reviewed work. If you have a strong bookkeeping background and enjoy working through a client file from start to finish, this could be a great fit.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Complete weekly transaction categorization and coding in QuickBooks Online, including matching receipts and preparing expense reports for owner review.
  • Independently perform bank and credit card reconciliations across client accounts, investigate discrepancies, resolve routine issues, and bring a clear summary of anything that needs higher-level review.
  • Support month-end close, including balance sheet account review, P&L reasonableness review, and basic adjusting journal entry preparation.
  • Self-review your own work before submitting — identify exceptions, note where judgment was used, and flag only the items that genuinely require the owner's approval.
  • Track and follow up on outstanding client documents needed to keep bookkeeping workflows moving, such as receipts, statements, and source records.
  • Support the billing cycle through invoice preparation and payment follow-up, within defined scope and without authority to change pricing or approve adjustments.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping or accounting experience — this is a firm requirement for this role.
  • Prior experience at a bookkeeping firm, CPA firm, CAS practice, or similar environment where you've worked across multiple client files is strongly preferred.
  • Strong QuickBooks Online experience well beyond basic navigation — you should be comfortable using it daily across the full range of bookkeeping tasks.
  • The ability to investigate an issue, apply reasonable accounting judgment, and come back with a recommended treatment rather than simply flagging everything for review.
  • Solid understanding of accounting fundamentals — debits and credits, reconciliation logic, transaction categorization, and basic financial statement review.
  • Experience with clean-up bookkeeping or identifying unusual and incorrect balances is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, good self-review habits, and a reliable, organized approach to managing client files.
  • Strong written and spoken English — you'll be communicating directly with the owner to report on status, ask questions, and summarize your work.
  • Discretion with confidential financial data is essential.

SCHEDULE & PAY

  • Full-time: 40 hours per week
  • Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Pacific Time
  • Pay: $5.00 per hour

BENEFITS

  • 10 days paid time off
  • Health benefits
  • High-speed internet stipend
