About marleys

We make comfortable leather dance shoes in northern Portugal for social dancers — swing, salsa, bachata, and other dance styles. We've grown through in-person sales at dance events across Eastern Canada and we're building out our digital channels now.

You don't need to be a dancer. You do need to work inside a brand voice that's already defined rather than defaulting to your own.

This role has two parts: strategy and execution. You're not just a pair of hands — you're expected to bring ideas, and the ideas are expected to be grounded in what's actually working out there.

Part one — Strategy

Monthly research

Review what competitors and high-performing accounts in adjacent spaces are doing. Not a trend summary — specifics I could act on.

10-15 high quality entries on:

  • Hooks that are working, transcribed as written
  • Formats and ideas worth adapting
  • Themes that are gaining traction, and ones that have gone stale
  • Build the idea bank

Turn that research into a running database we can pull from — hooks, concepts, formats, references, each tagged so it's findable when we need an idea for a given pillar or product moment. It lives in our Notion so everyone works from the same source.

This compounds. By month four it should be the first place anyone looks when the calendar needs filling.

Monthly marketing meeting

  • Collaborate with me (the founder) & the marketing coordinator to understand our content calendar for the upcoming month
  • Ask questions, flag blockers to completing tasks
  • Walk away with a content calendar that includes the idea, the visual reference, the text, captions, assets

You'll see how your work performed. That feedback comes back to you in this meeting, because making content without knowing what landed is guesswork.

Part two — Execution

You're handed the social content calendar with the intent behind each slot — what idea we're going after, what it needs to do.

From there you make it:

  • Write the hooks
  • Write and set on-screen captions
  • Edit video into finished reels
  • Design carousels and static assets in Canva to our templates
  • Write post captions in our voice
  • Deliver sized per platform, ready to schedule

I film. You tell me what to shoot: each clip, the hook line, rough length, setting. I should be able to film a batch in one sitting without thinking about it.

You don't schedule or publish. You hand finished assets to the coordinator, who schedules them and tracks performance.

How the handoff works

1. Monthly meeting — you propose, coordinator plans
2. Coordinator hands you the calendar with the intent per slot
3. You look through our existing footage and see if there's already something there or if I need to film new content
4. If I film new content, you tell me what I need to film
5. You deliver finished assets for approval; revise as needed
6. The marketing coordinator schedules and reports back — into next month's meeting

What you get

  • An editorial brief. Our voice, our formatting rules, what we do and don't do, with examples of each
  • A monthly working session with me (the founder) and the coordinator, plus performance data on everything you've made
  • Visual direction. Reference and inspiration for how we're building the brand and visual identity, so the look is a shared decision rather than something you infer
  • Canva templates and access to our Notion, where the calendar, brief, and idea bank live

What we're looking for

  • Short-form video editing that feels native to the platform, not templated. CapCut or Premiere
  • Canva fluency working inside existing brand templates
  • Strong written English with a real ear for voice. You can hear the difference between a human hook and a generated one
  • Comfortable working in Notion — the calendar, briefs, and idea bank live there and I need it kept current
  • Genuinely curious about what makes content work. The research half of this job isn't a chore you get through to reach the fun part
  • Reliable turnaround. Batches have dates
  • Overlap with Eastern Time

On AI: use it. We do. But carousels that look generated, video with that AI-made look, and copy that reads like an unedited first draft are not what we're after. You're the judgment on top of the tool, not a pass-through for it.

On learning: if parts of this are new to you, say so. I'd rather work with someone sharp and curious than someone who overclaims.

How this starts

One paid trial batch of 6 reels and 2 carousels. We'll sit down and discuss a content calendar I've built, our existing content bank, and our visual direction & brand kit. You tell me what to film where needed. In a week's time, you deliver 6 reels, 2 carousel, and copy for all of it, plus five hooks you'd want to test and where they came from. Based on performance, we go monthly.

To apply

Please note: Generic AI responses will be automatically rejected.

  • Two short-form videos you edited. What were you going for, and did it work?
  • Your portfolio
  • One carousel you designed for a brand.
  • Pick any post on ---------- Instagram and write a better hook for it. One line.
  • Name one account you'd watch for ideas in our space, and one hook of theirs you'd steal.
