FULL-TIME WORDPRESS DEVELOPER & SEO WEBSITE MANAGER
Remote (Philippines-based) | Full-time | $500 USD/month
IMPORTANT: Start your application with the word SAGE so we know you read the full post. Applications without it will not be reviewed.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're a multi-region women's health and fitness franchise (AU/NZ, Canada, US) looking for a full-time developer to own our WordPress website end-to-end — technical build work, security, SEO execution, and getting our blog/email content out the door. You'll work directly with, and be led by, our project lead in Sydney, who will give you clear written briefs, direction, and regular check-ins along the way. You won't be left to figure everything out on your own — this is a genuinely managed role with hands-on leadership.
What we're hoping for is someone who takes real ownership of the work they're given: delivers what was asked, tests it before calling it done, and flags problems early rather than going quiet — and who grows into more independence over time as they learn our systems. We don't expect you to arrive already running the whole website unsupervised.
This is a hands-on technical role, not a support/ticket role. You'll be trusted with real production systems from week one, with clear guidance every step of the way.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
WordPress Development & Site Management
- Customize and extend the site's theme (Sage/Blade framework) and flexible content fields (ACF Flexible Content / Gutenberg blocks) to build new page layouts and modules
- Maintain four regional site variants (AU, NZ, CA, US) via WPML
- Perform monthly core/theme/plugin maintenance with zero downtime
- Work in our GitHub repo — proper branches, pull requests, clear commit messages, staging deploys
- Manage WP Engine hosting (staging, deploys, backups)
- Handle API integrations — booking/scheduling platforms and GoHighLevel (GHL) automations
SEO & AI Search Visibility
- Execute on-page SEO: meta tags, header structure, image alt-text, schema/structured data (Yoast or RankMath)
- Apply AIO/AEO best practices — structuring content (FAQ/HowTo schema, answer-first formatting) so it gets picked up by Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, and similar AI search tools
- Evaluate and use SEO/keyword monitoring tools (e.g. SEMrush)
Content & Campaign Distribution
- Publish weekly blog posts provided by the content team — formatting, imagery, links, SEO/AIO structure (you won't be writing the copy)
- Build, test, and deploy Mailchimp email campaigns tied to blog content to drive traffic; manage segmentation and automated workflows
Security & Technical Health
- Manage Wordfence security, credential rotation, and secrets storage
- Run plugin audits and manage license decisions
- Proactively catch bugs, broken functionality, and site speed issues
Working with AI Tools
- Use AI coding assistants (e.g. Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to speed up development — while still reviewing, understanding, and taking ownership of everything shipped
- Be ready to explain specifically how you've used AI tools on past projects, not just that you're aware of them
REQUIRED SKILLS
- 3+ years hands-on WordPress development (PHP, ACF — including Flexible Content field layouts — Gutenberg, a modern theme framework like Sage/Blade, Timber, or Roots)
- Solid Git/GitHub workflow — branching, PRs, resolving conflicts
- On-page SEO execution experience (Yoast/RankMath) and awareness of AI-search optimization trends (AIO/AEO/GEO)
- Experience with Mailchimp or a similar ESP for campaign building
- API integration experience
- Conversational English strong enough to follow Zoom calls and multi-step verbal instructions. You won't be writing marketing copy, so full fluency isn't required — but you do need to understand and be understood live. This is assessed as part of the process.
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools to speed up real development work (not just "I've heard of Copilot")
- Able to take a clear written brief and run with it, asking smart clarifying questions rather than guessing — you'll have ongoing leadership and direction, so this is about taking ownership of assigned work, not managing the whole website unsupervised
NICE-TO-HAVE
- Direct GoHighLevel experience (workflows, Communities, Courses/Memberships, Client Portal)
- Basic graphic skills in Canva or similar, for preparing blog images
- Google Analytics / Search Console experience
- Experience with Notion as a project management tool — all our documentation and project management runs through it, though this is easy to pick up if you haven't used it before
WORK STYLE WE NEED
- Full-time hours, but no fixed 9-5 required — you're welcome to structure your day however suits you, as long as your full-time hours are covered and you're available for scheduled meetings at reasonable times
- Takes a clear, written task and runs with it — you'll get direction and leadership, not silence, so this is about follow-through rather than figuring it all out alone
- Proactive communicator — flags blockers, asks sharp questions, reports back clearly rather than going quiet
- Willing to learn, adapt, and take on new challenges you're unfamiliar with — you won't know everything on day one, and that's expected
COMPENSATION & LOGISTICS
- $500 USD/month, full-time contractor role
- Fully remote
- Reports to: Project Lead (Sydney, Australia)
