About the Role

We run Facebook and Instagram video ads for live music acts and events, and we're looking for a short-form editor to join the team.

This is casual to start, around 3 hours a day, with more work for the right person as we grow. Where it goes depends on you: your eye, your attitude, and how you take feedback. The right editor can grow into a bigger role here over time.

You don't need music marketing experience. You need a great eye and a genuine love for editing short-form video.

What you'll be doing:

Editing short-form video ads for musicians and live shows. Cutting to music, building hooks that stop the scroll, and turning raw footage into ads that make people want to be in the room.

Must-haves:

  • A strong portfolio of short-form video you've edited. Send links, and show me a range. It doesn't have to be music.
  • You know what hooks someone in the first 3 seconds, and you know how to cut to music.
  • You present your work in ---------- (or similar) so the team and clients can leave feedback right on it. This is an absolute must!
  • You only use footage, music and assets we have the rights to. No ripping clips, tracks or images from other videos or the internet. If you're not sure we can use something, you ask first.
  • You work within Philippine business hours, and you're online for a stretch between 9am and 3pm PHT so we can talk live. Most of our team is in the Philippines and I'm in Australia, so we need that overlap for feedback and turnaround during the day.
  • Really good written and spoken English. I give feedback over video, so you need to follow it easily and talk it through with me.
  • You're happy to track your hours on a timesheet I'll provide. This work gets billed to clients, so accurate hours per client are non-negotiable. If that's a dealbreaker for you, this isn't the role for you!

Nice to have:

  • Experience editing ads or music content.

Who this is for:

  • You love editing. It's the thing you'd be doing anyway, job or no job.
  • You watch an ad and think "I'd have cut that differently."
  • You're proactive. You spot something that could be better and you fix it without being asked.
  • You use your own judgement. I want to hand you footage and trust your calls, not answer twenty questions on every video. However, you strive to understand the objective from day one and if that is not clear you ask.
  • You're hungry to make the best possible video, the one that gets the clickthrough and ultimately the sale.
  • You learn from feedback, from our team and from the clients who comment on your videos. You don't have to be told twice.
  • If a client hasn't given you enough raw footage to work with, you suggest what footage would make the video better and let us know early so we can communicate it to the client.
  • You keep up with what's working in short-form right now, because it changes fast.
  • You want to grow with a business and love what you're doing and who you're doing it with, not just "have a job".
  • You operate with integrity. If you say you'll do something, you do it. And if something's getting in the way, you communicate it rather than going quiet or ghosting.
  • You're enthusiastic and curious. You ask questions and you want to get better.
  • You're kind and respectful, and always willing to help.

To apply:

  • Start your message with the word SOUNDCHECK so I know you read to the end and can see your attention to detail.
  • Send links to a range of your work.
  • In your own words (no AI, please), tell me in a few sentences what makes a great video ad. I want to hear how you think, not what ChatGPT thinks.
  • Tell me your expected hourly rate in USD.
