GRVLN — FOUNDING LEAD SHORT-FORM VIDEO EDITOR

WHO WE ARE
GRVLN (Graveylane) is an Australian surf, swimwear and underground streetwear brand from Sydney's Northern Beaches. ----------
We make long, old-school-inspired performance boardshorts, women's swim, and streetwear. The brand lives where surf, skate, graffiti, punk, rave and editorial fashion overlap. Two founders — Blake and Dylan. Nearly AUD $300,000 in around nine months, with no editor.
That last part is the problem.
WHY THIS ROLE EXISTS
We film constantly. Surf trips, fashion, studio, rave, street, long-form talking pieces, UGC from customers. Then it sits on a hard drive because the two people who shot it are also the two people who would have to cut it.
We want an editor who is genuinely good — taste, not templates — so that footage becomes content within hours instead of never. You will be the founding editor, and if you are as good as we hope, you will eventually train and quality-control the clippers and editors we hire under you.
This is a taste hire. We are not looking for someone to churn out 200 subtitled clips a month.
THE LOOK
- Surfcore
- Underground streetwear
- Graffiti, punk, rave
- Editorial fashion
- Raw iPhone, dad-cam, VHS and archival textures where they suit
- Real, energetic, culturally aware
Never corporate. Never generic dropshipping-ad energy. Never over-polished just because the effect exists.
If you have watched good surf and skate edits, good fashion film, and good music content, you already know what we mean. If you have not, this is not your role and that is fine.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Edit Reels, TikToks, YouTube Shorts and paid-social variations
- Cut founder talking-head content
- Cut surfing, fashion, lifestyle, rave, art and adventure footage
- Pull the strong moments out of long-form video and podcasts
- Build multiple genuine hook variations — different opening shots, text hooks, captions, pacing, endings — not the same edit with a new first frame
- Protect the GRVLN visual identity in everything
- Use only B-roll we supplied or approved
- Keep projects and file naming organised to a convention
- Upload exports and project files correctly, every time
- Work in CapCut Teams or approved shared editing software
- Move fast when new footage drops — same-day response to an upload
- Deliver first drafts by the agreed deadline
- Keep a revision log with the reason for every rejection
- Turn our feedback calls into reusable training examples
- Maintain the GRVLN editing bible
- Read organic and ad performance feedback and act on it
- Remake winners intelligently, without producing pointless near-duplicates
- Eventually train and QA additional editors
HOW YOU WILL BE MEASURED
- Percentage of first drafts approved without revision
- Average turnaround from upload to first draft
- Revision rate, broken down by reason
- Hook quality — do the first two seconds hold
- File and timeline organisation
- Number of genuinely usable creative variations per package
- Organic retention and performance
- How many of your cuts become paid-ad candidates
- Training examples documented
- Whether you can raise the standard of the editors who come after you
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
- A strong short-form portfolio — and it has to be relevant
- CapCut and/or Premiere Pro
- Real understanding of hooks and retention, not just terminology
- Excellent footage selection — knowing what to leave out
- The ability to explain why one opening is stronger than another. We will ask.
- Fast turnaround that does not destroy quality
- Clean, consistent file organisation
- Coachable. You will get repeated feedback and we need you to want it.
- Comfortable using AI to speed up work without handing over your aesthetic judgement
NICE TO HAVE
- Fashion, lifestyle, surf, skate, music or culture editing experience
- After Effects or DaVinci Resolve
- Sound design instinct
- Experience cutting paid social ads and reading their performance
- Experience giving other editors feedback
SCHEDULE AND HOW IT STARTS
- Paid editing test first — about 90 minutes, paid PHP 2,500 on submission whether or not you get the role. We do not use candidates for free work and we do not publish test edits.
- Short probation paid per approved video (PHP 1,100 per approved short-form edit) or clearly tracked hours — your choice
- Then full-time for the right person
- At least 4 hours overlap with 9am–5pm Sydney time preferred
- Reliable internet and a real backup plan
PAY
- PHP 50,000–75,000 per month full-time, depending on portfolio quality, speed and leadership potential
- We are publishing a range because editor value genuinely varies that much. If your reel is exceptional, apply to the top of it and we will pay it.
- 13th-month pay
- Review at 30 days, pay review at 90 days, tied to approval rate and turnaround
- Path to PHP 90,000 as founding editor running other editors
WHERE THIS GOES
Founding editor means the editing bible is yours to write. The revision log you keep and the feedback you record become the training material for every editor we hire after you. The strongest system-builder here becomes our Content Team Lead.
Women are strongly encouraged to apply. Every role is open to all qualified applicants and we select on the published scorecard only.
WHAT WE ACTUALLY OFFER
- A real Australian brand with real product, real surf, real trips — not stock footage
- Direct creative work with the two founders who shoot it
- Long-term work, and credit for the look you help build
- Clear feedback, quickly. You will never be guessing what we want for long.
- AI is part of the workflow; your taste is the part we are paying for
- Paid tests are paid. No speculative work.
- Tell us when something did not work. We prefer that.
WE WILL REJECT, IMMEDIATELY
- Portfolios dominated by gaming, corporate explainers, or work with nothing to do with culture, fashion or sport
- Template-and-effect showreels with no restraint
- Anyone who cannot identify the hook in their own edit
- Anyone who cannot show a project file or timeline
- Careless use of copyrighted music or footage
- "One long video = 100 quality clips" claims
- Export volume prioritised over approved quality
- Inability to follow a naming convention
- Defensiveness about revisions
- Unedited AI-written applications. We read a lot of them and it is an instant no.
TO APPLY
Start your message with: GRVLN CUT
Then send:
1. Your three best relevant short-form examples (links)
2. One shared editing timeline or a short screen recording showing how you actually work
3. Software you use
4. Your normal turnaround time
5. Your expected pay per approved edit
6. Your expected monthly full-time salary in PHP
7. Current clients and your availability
8. Your internet speed and computer specifications
And answer this:
"You receive a 45-minute founder vlog, 20 raw iPhone clips and a folder of approved B-roll. Explain how you would turn it into a master content package, how you would select hooks, and how you would keep every asset easy for another editor to find."
Be specific. We would rather read three sharp paragraphs than a page of adjectives.
