Controller / Senior Level Accounting with Real Estate Experience

We are looking for an experienced Real Estate Controller to oversee the company’s financial operations, accounting, and bookkeeping functions.

The ideal candidate will have strong real estate accounting experience, advanced knowledge of GAAP and lease accounting, and the ability to manage financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, internal controls, and accounting teams across multiple properties or entities.

What You’ll Do

Accounting & Financial Operations

• Oversee day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping, including AP, AR, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
• Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
• Review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable real estate accounting standards

Real Estate Accounting

• Oversee property-level accounting across multiple properties/entities
• Manage CAM reconciliations, tenant billing, and lease accounting
• Oversee construction-in-progress accounting, capitalization, and fixed asset tracking
• Support acquisitions, dispositions, and refinancing transactions
• Coordinate budget vs. actual variance analysis

Financial Reporting & Compliance

• Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
• Coordinate tax filings with external CPA/tax advisors
• Monitor lender covenants, investor reporting, and regulatory requirements
• Lead the annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors

Team Leadership

• Supervise, train, and mentor accounting/bookkeeping staff
• Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting policies
• Improve accounting systems, software, and processes for greater efficiency

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
• At least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
• Direct experience in real estate accounting — property management, development, or investment
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, lease accounting, and property-level financial reporting
• Proficiency with accounting platforms such as Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, QuickBooks, or similar
• Advanced Excel skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and financial reporting skills
• Excellent communication and leadership abilities
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
