Content Assistant + Short-Form Video Editor
Confidential employer
Part-Time, Ongoing | Remote
// About the Role //
I run House of Agalliao, a growing hair and beauty brand focused on custom wig making and wig education.
I’m looking for a creative Content Assistant + Short-Form Video Editor who can help me turn the content I create into engaging, intentional social media content while also helping me become more organized and consistent with content creation.
This is primarily an editing role, with content assistance as the secondary responsibility.
I’m not looking for someone who only waits for instructions and completes tasks exactly as assigned. I want someone who can eventually learn the brand, understand my personality and creative preferences, help me develop a recognizable content style, and bring ideas to me too.
You do not need to know everything about my brand or industry on day one. I’m looking for someone who is observant, creative, reliable and willing to learn.
// Who I’m Looking For //
You may be a great fit if you’re very online and naturally aware of what’s happening across Instagram, TikTok and internet culture in general.
You understand current content trends, conversations, memes, sounds, editing styles and emerging formats — but you also understand that following every trend doesn’t automatically make good content.
You should be a strong short-form video editor with a good eye for pacing, storytelling, text placement, music, sound effects, transitions and visual details.
You should be comfortable editing Instagram Reels, TikToks and other vertical short-form content and be able to do basic photo editing or simple graphics when needed.
I’m especially interested in someone who can see potential in raw footage that may not immediately look exciting.
You should also be able to study another person’s personality and gradually understand their voice, sense of humor, preferences and audience.
Good content should do more than look pretty. It should hold attention, communicate something and ultimately support the business.
I want someone proactive enough to say:
“I saw this trend and think we could adapt it this way.”
Or:
“You mentioned this while filming — I think that could actually be its own Reel.”
Or:
“For next week, I need you to record these three clips and I can turn them into these content ideas.”
You should be organized, reliable with deadlines, consistent with communication, comfortable receiving feedback and capable of working independently once you have proper direction.
I don’t expect you to know everything. I do expect you to be resourceful enough to research, experiment and figure things out.
// What You’ll Help With //
Your responsibilities may include:
- Editing Instagram Reels, TikToks and other short-form videos; reviewing raw footage and identifying the strongest moments; developing pacing and storytelling within edits; adding appropriate on-screen text, subtitles, sound effects, music, screenshots, graphics, B-roll or visual elements; cleaning up audio; finding appropriate sounds or music; repurposing existing or older content; finding opportunities to turn one recording into multiple pieces of content; researching trends, creators, hooks and content formats; bringing new content concepts to me; organizing raw footage and completed content; helping maintain a content calendar; creating simple shot lists or recording requests for me; tracking content that needs to be recorded, edited, revised or published; helping prepare content for posting; and helping me build a more consistent content creation process.
My current goal is approximately 3–5 quality pieces of content per week.
I care much more about creating content that feels intentional, engaging and on-brand than posting filler just to say we posted something.
// My Editing Style + Creative Direction //
I don’t currently have one rigid or fully established editing style.
Most of the content I create myself is relatively simple — clean cuts, occasional on-screen text or captions, music, sound effects and small visual details.
But I would like my content to become more visually engaging, creative and recognizable over time.
Part of why I’m hiring for this role is because I want someone who can help me develop that style with me.
I already have a strong sense of what I like and, equally important, what I don’t like.
I want someone with enough creative instinct to take those preferences, study my personality and brand, experiment with different approaches, and gradually help establish an editing style that feels distinctly like House of Agalliao and me.
Eventually, I would love for there to be certain visual elements, editing choices or creative touches that people begin to recognize as part of my content — without making every video look exactly the same.
I am not looking for someone who simply adds captions, random effects and transitions to every video and considers it finished.
I like content that feels:
Clean. Current. Personality-driven. Engaging. Intentional.
Sometimes the strongest edit may be very simple.
Other times a video might benefit from humor, sound effects, screenshots, B-roll, text, visual references, interesting cuts or other creative elements that strengthen the story.
I want someone with enough creative judgment to understand the difference.
I also don’t want an editor who applies the exact same editing template or style to every client.
I want someone willing to experiment, learn what works for my audience, take feedback and help us develop our own visual identity over time.
// Brand Voice //
You’ll be working with content that represents both me personally and House of Agalliao, so understanding my personality will be important.
My content tends to be conversational, confident, relatable, educational and sometimes funny.
I don’t want my content to feel overly corporate, robotic, cheesy or obviously written by a social media assistant.
You are not expected to understand my voice perfectly on day one.
What matters more is whether you are observant enough to learn it.
I want someone who pays attention to the way I naturally speak, the phrases I use, what I find funny, how I explain things and how I communicate with my audience — and gradually becomes better at helping me create content that still sounds and feels like me.
Beauty + Hair Industry Understanding
Previous experience in the hair industry is a plus, but it is not required.
However, you must be interested and willing to learn.
My content involves wig making, wig education, beauty entrepreneurship and the behind-the-scenes process of running and growing a beauty brand.
You will encounter terminology surrounding things like closures, bundles, knots, glueless wigs, wig construction and other aspects of the hair industry.
I don’t need someone pretending to already know everything.
I would rather have someone curious enough to ask questions, learn the terminology and understand the audience than someone treating the content like generic beauty content.
// Content Assistance //
Editing is the primary part of this role, but I’m also looking for someone who can help make content creation feel less overwhelming for me.
There may be weeks when I have a lot of footage ready to edit and weeks when I have less.
During lighter editing periods, your work may shift toward researching content ideas, reviewing older footage for repurposing opportunities, organizing content, identifying trends or references, planning upcoming concepts, creating shot lists and helping determine what I should record next.
I don’t want the entire content process to stop just because I haven’t handed you a new video yet.
Part of the long-term goal is for this role to actually help me become a more consistent content creator.
Eventually, I want us to reach a point where you might come to me and say:
“Here are four ideas for next week. For this one, I just need you to record yourself doing this. For this one, answer this question on camera. And for this one, I can use footage we already have.”
That level of initiative is something I would really value.
// Schedule + Workload //
This is an ongoing part-time position with a flexible workload.
I currently expect the role to be somewhere around 10–15 hours per week, although workload may vary depending on how much content is being created.
Some weeks may be more editing-heavy than others.
I’m looking for someone who wants an ongoing working relationship rather than someone who only wants occasional one-off editing projects.
There is also potential for the role, responsibilities and hours to grow over time as the brand grows.
// Bonus Points //
It’s a plus if you have previously edited content for beauty, hair, fashion, education, creator-led or personal brands.
It’s also a plus if you understand basic content marketing, storytelling or consumer psychology; understand why someone might stop scrolling or continue watching a piece of content; know how to repurpose one recording into multiple pieces of content; have experience with tools such as CapCut, Canva and Google Drive; understand the difference between founder-led content and highly polished corporate content; or naturally come across something online and think:
“We could do our version of this.”
That kind of creative instinct is exactly what I’m interested in.
// How to Apply //
Please send me a short introduction telling me about yourself and why this specific role caught your attention.
Please also include 3–5 examples of short-form videos you personally edited. Send me the work you think best represents your abilities rather than everything you’ve ever edited.
If you have a portfolio, please include it.
Tell me which editing software and tools you primarily use, your current availability, your timezone, and your expected hourly or monthly rate.
(Optional but recommended): I’d also like you to tell me one creator or brand whose social media content you think is really go
