Design YouTube Thumbnails That Make People Click (And Still Look Good)
Confidential employer
Most people d ---------- whether to watch a YouTube video in just a few seconds.
This role is about designing thumbnails that make that decision easy: clear, interesting, and worth clicking. If you enjoy thinking about why people click and turning that into simple, strong designs, this role may be a good fit.
I run a YouTube channel called Fearless Abroad. The channel is new, and I'm building it full-time from the ground up. I handle the thumbnail strategy and concept for every video myself. What I need is someone who can take that concept and execute it well, and who can also help me level up my design eye and build a consistent visual brand as the channel grows.
How this works:
For each video, I'll give you the concept: the text I want, the image I want, and general direction. There's some flexibility on background and design details, but the core concept comes from me. Your job is to take that and turn it into one polished, high-performing thumbnail, with revisions included until it's right. I bring the strategy and direction, you bring the design execution and craft, and over time we build a visual style that's consistently recognizable as Fearless Abroad.
This role is a good fit if you:
- Have real experience designing YouTube thumbnails (not just general graphic design)
- Understand how thumbnails influence clicks and viewer behavior
- Are familiar with core thumbnail concepts such as curiosity and contrast, clear focus and visual hierarchy, emotion and attention
- Can take a concept someone else gives you and execute it cleanly, while still bringing your own design judgment to the details
- Can design and deliver a thumbnail within 2–3 days after assignment
- Are available and responsive on weekdays (I don't work weekends, so feedback and any coworking will happen Monday–Friday)
- Are comfortable working asynchronously (time zone is flexible, as long as weekday availability works)
- Can take feedback well and make focused revisions, without needing many rounds to land it
Your work will include:
- Designing one final thumbnail per video, based on the concept and direction I provide, including revisions until it's finalized
- Making revisions based on my feedback and, over time, performance data
- Helping develop a consistent, recognizable visual style for the channel as it grows
- Occasionally offering your own perspective on what would strengthen a concept, since part of this role is helping me get better at thumbnail design, not just executing what I ask for
You will receive written guidelines and direction for each video. This is a collaborative, evolving process as the channel grows. If we work well together, this can become ongoing weekly work and a long-term role.
How to Apply
Please send a short message that includes:
- One suggestion on how to improve one thumbnail on my channel: ---------- (1–2 sentences is enough)
- Examples of your previous thumbnail work (links or portfolio)
- Your price per thumbnail (including revisions)
- Your time zone and general availability
Please start your message with the word SUCCESS so I know you read the full post. Applications without this word will not be reviewed.
