Financial Analyst — Business Valuation & Market Research (Project-Based)
Confidential employer
About the role
I own a financial services firm in the US serving small businesses. I need valuations and industry research for specific companies, one engagement at a time.
Each project has a defined scope and a deadline. Do good work and there will be more — this can become steady, recurring work.
I provide access to the paid research platforms needed for the job. You bring the analysis.
What you'll own
Business valuations using the income, market, and asset-based approaches
Industry research: what revenue and EBITDA/SDE multiples apply to a given industry, and why
Comparable transaction and comparable company analysis
Market research at three levels — national, state, then county or metro
Pulling data from paid platforms I provide, plus public sources, and telling me plainly how reliable each source is
A clean written deliverable with assumptions visible and reasoning that holds up to questioning
Requirements
Background in valuation, financial modeling, audit, or transaction advisory. You don't need "valuation analyst" in your job title — you need to have done the work.
Solid grasp of valuation methodology: DCF, market multiples, SDE vs. EBITDA, normalization adjustments, discount rates
You understand why multiples differ by industry and can explain it in plain language
Strong Excel or Google Sheets. You build models, not fill in templates.
Comfortable with research databases. I provide subscription access — you need to know how to use these tools and where their data has gaps.
Able to work down to county and metro level, not just national averages
Extremely organized. Assumptions documented, sources cited, nothing hand-waved.
Written and spoken English strong enough for live calls and clean written deliverables
Available for calls during a set overlap window with US Central Time
Nice to have
CPA, CFA, or progress toward either
Big 4 or mid-tier audit background
US market experience, especially Texas
Small business valuations, not just large-cap
Hands-on with BizBuySell, DealStats, IBISWorld, PitchBook, or similar
Industry research or market sizing experience
How you'll communicate with me
I'm busy and I d ---------- fast. Your reporting should be:
Short. Bullets, not paragraphs. Lead with the conclusion.
Visual where it helps. A table or chart beats a wall of text.
Decision-oriented. Give me the number, the range, and what drives it.
Channels: Teams is primary. iMessage or WhatsApp for urgent items. Video calls with camera on are required — you'll walk me through your findings and defend your assumptions live, not just send a file.
Access and security
Read-only access to whatever financial records an engagement requires, plus a dedicated inbox for project materials — not my personal accounts. No shared logins. Research platform access is provided under my subscription and is for my engagements only. Client information is confidential; you'll sign an NDA before the first project.
How to apply
Read this carefully. Applications that skip a step get deleted without a reply.
Start your message with the word MULTIPLE on its own first line.
Attach one piece of analytical work you produced — a valuation, a financial model, a market research report, or a comparable company analysis. Redact company names and anything confidential. Your own work only, not a template or a class project.
Write a summary of that file's conclusion as if you were sending it to me. Maximum 100 words, bullets only.
Record a video under 2 minutes, camera on: your name, your background, and a walkthrough of the file — specifically, how you arrived at your key assumption and why you're confident in it.
In one or two sentences: name an industry you've analyzed and where you found the multiple or benchmark data for it.
Tell me your rate — per project or per hour — and what text app you use.
