About the Role

We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented Insurance Verification Specialist to join our growing dermatology practice. This position is responsible for ensuring that patients have accurate insurance information and that eligibility, benefits, authorizations, and financial responsibilities are verified prior to their appointments and procedures.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a medical or dermatology practice, strong knowledge of commercial insurance plans and Medicare, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to scheduled appointments and procedures.
Confirm active coverage, effective dates, deductibles, copays, coinsurance, out-of-pocket maximums, and benefit limitations.
Determine whether providers and services are in-network or out-of-network.
Obtain and document referrals, pre-certifications, and prior authorizations when required.
Verify coverage requirements for dermatology services and procedures, including biopsies, excisions, destruction of benign and malignant lesions, phototherapy, injections, and other office-based procedures.
Accurately enter and update insurance information in the practice management/EHR system.
Identify incorrect, inactive, or incomplete insurance information and work to resolve discrepancies before the patient's visit.
Communicate anticipated patient financial responsibility, including deductibles, copays, and coinsurance, when appropriate.
Communicate with insurance companies through payer portals and by telephone to obtain accurate benefit information.
Work closely with clinical staff, front office staff, and billing to resolve insurance-related issues.
Identify potential coverage issues before services are rendered and communicate concerns to the appropriate team members.
Maintain thorough documentation of all verification and authorization activity.
Follow HIPAA and practice confidentiality requirements at all times.

Qualifications
Previous experience in medical insurance verification required
Dermatology practice experience strongly preferred.
Knowledge of commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicare Advantage plans.
Experience obtaining prior authorizations and referrals preferred.
Familiarity with CPT and ICD-10 codes and medical terminology.
Strong computer and data-entry skills.
Experience with electronic health records/practice management systems preferred.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced medical office.
