About the Role

ABOUT

Spark Marketing Agency runs Meta ads for home service contractors across the US, including roofing, remodeling, landscaping, pools, siding, and HVAC. We manage around 150 client accounts across three teams, supported by an in-house video crew and clients who have generated over one million dollars from our campaigns.

Everything the agency does runs on software we built ourselves. One unified dashboard handles our sales pipeline, client delivery, payroll, the client portal, and roughly 500 backend functions. AI is not a side project here. It drafts media strategies, scores calls, writes content, answers questions about our internal data, and texts clients the moment a lead comes in.

THE ROLE

You build and run that system. We do not build prototypes or demos. You will build software our internal team uses every day and that our clients receive communications from. You will ship to production during your first week, and you will own what you ship.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Build features end to end, including Postgres schemas, backend functions, and the interfaces the team actually uses.
  • Put AI where it earns its place. Draft prompts, select models, handle edge cases and failures, and evaluate output quality. Anthropic Claude and OpenAI models are both in daily production use here.
  • Design and maintain a Supabase Postgres database with over 400 existing migrations, handling row level security, indexes, and maintaining strict data integrity.
  • Own scheduled background jobs, retries, outbox queues, and monitoring systems so silent failures are caught immediately.
  • Work directly with operations. Observe how CSMs, media buyers, and closers operate daily, and remove manual steps that slow them down.
  • Verify your own work thoroughly. Load the page, inspect the logs, check provider records, and ensure systems perform in real conditions before considering a task complete.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Proven backend engineering experience. You are proficient with SQL, understand indexing deeply, and have hands-on experience debugging production environments.
  • Practical experience integrating LLM APIs in production beyond standard chat interfaces, including robust prompt engineering and error handling.
  • Hands-on experience with Supabase or Postgres, including schema migrations, security policies, and performance tuning.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript on Node, with enough React experience to build functional frontend views for backend services.
  • Solid computer science foundation, whether acquired through formal education or self-directed study, reflected in clean problem-solving and system architecture.
  • Experience building internal tools, operations software, or automating core business workflows is strongly preferred.

HOURS AND DETAILS

  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM Pacific Time. These working hours are firm because you will collaborate directly with our team in real time, not asynchronously.
  • Compensation: Please include your expected monthly salary rate with your application.
  • Location: Fully remote, full-time independent contractor engagement.
  • Structure: You will report directly to Cesar. Feedback is direct, decisions are fast, and you will take genuine ownership of what you build.
