About the Role

We are looking for an experienced trademark professional to join a remote team handling a wide variety of trademark matters throughout the full lifecycle of a trademark.

This is not a general virtual assistant position. We are specifically looking for someone with hands-on trademark experience who can review files, identify required actions, prepare substantive work, and help move matters forward with limited supervision.

The majority of the work involves U.S. trademarks, with additional international trademark work across several other major jurisdictions.

Responsibilities

Depending on your experience, work may include:

  • Trademark clearance searches and registrability assessments
  • Preparing trademark applications and goods/services descriptions
  • Reviewing trademark office correspondence and identifying required actions
  • Preparing responses to Office Actions
  • Handling identification amendments, disclaimers, specimen issues, domicile issues, and other prosecution matters
  • Managing intent-to-use applications, Statements of Use, extensions, and related deadlines
  • Reviewing and preparing maintenance and renewal filings
  • Monitoring application and registration status
  • Assisting with opposition and cancellation matters
  • Assisting with coexistence, consent, and settlement matters
  • Preparing assignments and ownership changes
  • Managing trademark portfolios and docketing deadlines
  • Reviewing foreign trademark correspondence
  • Coordinating matters across multiple jurisdictions
  • Drafting clear client and attorney correspondence
  • Improving internal trademark workflows, templates, and processes

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate has meaningful professional experience working with trademarks and understands how matters progress from clearance and filing through prosecution, registration, maintenance, enforcement, and disputes.

Strong U.S. trademark experience is particularly important.

You should be comfortable with matters involving:

  • Trademark applications and prosecution
  • Office Actions and examiner correspondence
  • Likelihood of confusion refusals
  • Descriptiveness refusals
  • Intent-to-use applications
  • Statements of Use and extension requests
  • Foreign-basis applications
  • Specimens and use-in-commerce requirements
  • Trademark deadlines and docketing
  • Opposition and cancellation proceedings

Experience with trademark systems outside the U.S. is a strong advantage.

Requirements

  • Prior professional trademark experience
  • Excellent written English
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to identify deadlines and procedural requirements accurately
  • Ability to research trademark issues independently
  • Good judgment when reviewing client files
  • Comfortable managing multiple matters at once
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Interest in ongoing remote work

A law degree or attorney qualification is not required. Practical trademark experience is more important.

Compensation

USD $8-$15/hour depending on experience, capabilities, and fit.

We are looking for someone interested in ongoing work who can take on increasing responsibility over time.

How to Apply

Please include:

1. A short summary of your trademark experience
2. The jurisdictions you have worked with
3. The types of trademark matters you have personally handled
4. Your current availability
5. Your expected hourly rate

Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a brief trademark skills assessment before an interview.
