About the Role

ABOUT US

We are a small Australian company. We build websites and get them found in search, including inside AI answers. Our clients are in a range of industries. We all work remotely.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a writer with a keen eye for fact-checking.

Every article starts as an AI draft, for our clients and for our own website. Your work is to turn that draft into something worth publishing.

Some need checking and a light edit. Others you would rewrite most of yourself.

WHAT YOU WOULD DO

  • Fact-check our drafts. Open every link and confirm the source says what the article claims.
  • Rewrite the parts that come back weak, which is sometimes most of the article.
  • Edit each article into the client's style, which we will give you.
  • Tell us when something is wrong, including when it is our mistake.

WHAT YOU GET FROM US

The topic, the client's brand notes, and a tool that flags claims worth a second look. The tool is a starting point rather than an answer, so the final call is yours.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Excellent written English.
  • The ability to cut. Four paragraphs that say one thing become one paragraph.
  • Comfort telling us we are wrong. We will be glad you did.

Experience checking facts is a bonus, whether that came from journalism, sub-editing, publishing or academic editing. SEO experience is a bonus too. Neither is required.

HOURS

We work Melbourne time, so your day overlaps with most of ours. No night shifts.

HOW WE HIRE

Two short paid tests, $25 and $15, then a paid trial article. We pay for all of it either way, and we will tell you how you did.

Your first month is a trial for both of us.

HOW TO APPLY

Please start your message with the word "offset", so we know you have read this.

Then answer two questions:

1. What writing or editing work have you done?
2. Have you ever caught a mistake in something before it went out? What happened?

Keep it short. Two good answers tell us more than a long application.
